A new CMS measure could change how your facility’s antipsychotic rates are reported—even if prescribing practices haven’t changed.

Effective January 2026, CMS implemented a new hybrid Long-Stay Antipsychotic Quality Measure designed to more accurately identify antipsychotic use. For some facilities, the change may result in higher reported rates—potentially impacting Five-Star ratings, Care Compare results, and survey scrutiny.
