The words were there.

I just couldn’t reach them.

This is what happened inside my brain.

Welcome to Aphasia Reality, a series that takes you inside the invisible moments of living with aphasia.

Stroke recovery has a way of changing your plans. I woke up convinced I was going to conquer my entire to-do list.

Instead... Butch got a bath, an industrial-strength de-shedding, and I got a nap. 😅

Recovery isn't always dramatic. Sometimes it's learning that one task is enough. Kendall... I promise we'll make that pickleball game one day. 😂🏓

What's one task that completely wiped you out when you thought it would be easy?

What you're seeing in this video is the exact day I walked back into work after my stroke.

The cheering and the banners felt like a celebration. But not long after, the dip hit.

Living with an invisible disability whether it's aphasia, overwhelming fatigue, or another challenge means fighting battles that most people never see. There were days it felt so heavy that I almost gave up on building Aphasia Rising.

I'm sharing this because when I was in that dark place, I couldn't find a roadmap.

So I kept going and started building one.

If you're in your own "dip" right now, please don't give up. Your progress isn't over, even if it doesn't feel that way today.

Inspired by Seth Godin's conversation on the Mel Robbins Podcast.

Community over everything. ☕️🧠 Checking in with fellow survivors every morning is where I find my drive. Turning that inspiration into movement today, because every small win counts. Welcome to Aphasia Rising. ✨

Dear Caregiver,

No one prepares you to become a caregiver overnight.

One day, life feels normal.

The next, you’re learning medications, appointments, therapy, and how to be strong for someone you love.

Some days you celebrate progress.

Some days you wonder if you’re doing enough.

If that’s you, I want you to hear this today…

You didn’t choose to become a caregiver. You chose the person.

That choice matters more than you know.

When the days feel long…

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to keep showing up.

When progress feels slow…

Healing happens in moments no one applauds.

Every encouraging word.
Every ride to therapy.
Every meal.
Every hug.
Every moment of patience.

It all matters.

And on the days you feel unseen…

Your loved one may never remember every word you said. They will remember how safe you made them feel.

Thank you for choosing love, even on the hard days.

With gratitude,

❤️ Aphasia Rising

I kept waiting for the “perfect” take. Then I realized perfection isn’t the goal. Showing up is.

Some days my words come easily. Some days aphasia has other plans. That’s real life, and that’s okay.

So today, I’m choosing progress over perfection.

Building Access. Restoring Possibility.
