In a new study from Mass General Brigham, Boston University (BU), and the Concussion & CTE Foundation, researchers found evidence that at least 1 in 4 former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) at the time of their death, a much higher prevalence compared to the general population.

“Community brain bank studies have shown that CTE affects less than 1% of the general population. To find that somewhere between 24.5% and 97.7% of NFL players from that time period had this progressive brain disease is a wake-up call for the NFL and scientific communities,” said lead and corresponding author Daniel Daneshvar, MD, PhD.

The study does not show that 1 in 4 current NFL players have CTE. The findings do underscore CTE as a serious health concern among former NFL players. Researchers note future studies should examine younger generations of athletes, and prevention efforts should focus on reducing the repetitive head impacts that drive CTE risk, not just concussions.

It's important to remember that many health issues can cause symptoms that look like neurodegenerative disease, and many of them are treatable. The dura mater is the outermost layer of the meninges, that help to protect the brain and spinal cord.

As fascia that is continuous with nerves that leave the central nervous system, in a way, it also has threads throughout the body, making it an important structure to understand when studying CranioSacral Therapy.

By ensuring there is mobility and (albeit tiny amounts of) glide in this important layer of fascia, CST supports the whole nervous system which can help many different health issues in a way other modalities don’t always reach.

Understanding anatomy isn't just about learning names - it's about appreciating how different structures relate to one another, and how we can work with them.

Six years after the COVID-19 pandemic upended the world, experts in California say the disease appears to be becoming more of a summer rather than a winter phenomenon.

The shift was noted for the past couple of years and has become even clearer in 2026, prompting health officials to refocus their prevention efforts. The CDC says COVID-19 is growing or likely growing in 43 states, including California.

A new study shows that among people hospitalized with COVID19, other viruses such as EBV, HSV1, and CMV may be reactivated.

This effect isn’t limited to those who are immunocompromised, either.

So if you’re wondering why I’m still masking indoors in public, have a read.

COVID can wake up a slew of dormant viruses inside you

Reactivation of typically harmless anelloviruses, in particular, seems to be linked with developing long COVID, study finds.

Protect yourself. The U.S. is about a month into a summer COVID-19 wave, with levels rising across much of the country, especially in the West and South.

This week's COVID-19 trend report.

The U.S. is about a month into a summer COVID-19 wave, with levels rising across much of the country, especially in the West and South. Still, some data sources continue to report “low” levels as compared to historical data, due to the long and lower-than-usual lull that preceded this wave.

Can CranioSacral Therapy help with persistent post-concussion symptoms?

Meet Dan Baines – an osteopath, former professional dancer - including several years with STOMP, and county-level judoka. Following a significant concussion sustained during competition over 20 years ago, Dan has lived with ongoing post-concussion symptoms that continue to affect his daily life.

Before beginning treatment, Dan completed a series of outcome measures (which neither he nor we have reviewed yet). We do know that his score on the Post-Concussion Symptom assessment places him just one point below the "severe" category, making him an ideal volunteer for this visible case study.

As we continue over coming weeks (6 in total), Dan will receive weekly Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (CST) sessions. We'll then compare his outcome measures and explore what, if anything, has changed.

In this first interview, recorded before Session 1, Dan shares the story of his injury, the symptoms he's experienced for more than two decades, and why he's chosen to take part in this project.
Our second catch up with Dan, one week after his first treatment session, he reflects on what he's noticed so far, including changes in his energy, sleep and day-to-day experience.

If you've ever wondered whether CST may have a role in supporting people living with long-term post-concussion symptoms, follow along as we document Dan's journey. You can watch these on our Youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfV3vEEJ0qc

Please note: This is a single case study exploring one person's experience. Individual outcomes vary, and we'll be sharing the results - whatever they may be - as the project progresses.

“Many practitioners believe the combination of gentle touch, focused attention and a safe therapeutic environment supports the body's natural self-regulating processes. Rather than forcing change, the treatment aims to create the conditions in which the body can relax and restore balance.”

With claims of better sleep, lower stress and a calmer nervous system, one beauty journalist investigates the evidence behind craniosacral therapy
