Today was one of those days that adds a few more gray hairs. No matter what we tried, we just couldn’t get the fish to cooperate.
I had the Ankeney family from Ann Arbor aboard today, and while the fishing certainly didn’t go the way we had hoped, they were an absolute pleasure to have on the boat.
As a captain, nobody is more frustrated than I am when we can’t make the fish bite. We put in the time, make the adjustments, and keep grinding, but at the end of the day, Mother Nature and the fish always get the final say.
Days like today are a good reminder that we can’t control the outcome—we can only control the effort we put in. I’m grateful to the Ankeney family for trusting me with their day on the water and for being such great guests despite the tough fishing.
Not every trip ends with a cooler full of fish, but I’m thankful for every group that steps aboard. 🎣
