Today was one of those days that adds a few more gray hairs. No matter what we tried, we just couldn’t get the fish to cooperate.
I had the Ankeney family from Ann Arbor aboard today, and while the fishing certainly didn’t go the way we had hoped, they were an absolute pleasure to have on the boat.
As a captain, nobody is more frustrated than I am when we can’t make the fish bite. We put in the time, make the adjustments, and keep grinding, but at the end of the day, Mother Nature and the fish always get the final say.
Days like today are a good reminder that we can’t control the outcome—we can only control the effort we put in. I’m grateful to the Ankeney family for trusting me with their day on the water and for being such great guests despite the tough fishing.
Not every trip ends with a cooler full of fish, but I’m thankful for every group that steps aboard. 🎣

Short five hour trip today boxed 61 of our possible 90 perch. The short fish were relentless, I’m guessing we threw back 250+ undersized fish looking for some respectable keepers.

I had this group aboard today celebrating Brayden’s birthday! 🎉
With some stronger east winds this morning, we opted for a later start to give things a little time to settle down. Once we got on the fish, the perch were biting as fast as we could get the minnows down to them!
We wrapped up the day with 130 perch weighing in at 32 pounds. It was another heavy sorting day, with roughly three short fish thrown back for every keeper. Fishing Addiction Gear Perch Fly Rigs any color did the trick. Al Szuch Live Bait was clutch with minnows and the cutters got the fish cleaned and the customers on their way in short order.
Happy Birthday, Brayden, and thanks for spending your special day with us! 🎣

Give me a call or shoot me a message to reserve your day on the lake!

We had a solid perch bite today, finishing just 18 fish shy of our boat limit with 102 perch weighing in at 27 pounds. We also released an estimated 200+ undersized fish throughout the day.
Doubles were plentiful, and we even managed to put together a triple! With the number of short fish we’re seeing, the outlook for next year’s perch fishery is looking very promising.
A great day on the water and an encouraging sign for the future! Thanks to Captain Jim Lamb for the heads up on the hot bite, Fishing Addiction Gear for making the best Perch Fly rigs on the market, and Buckshot's Bait & Tackle for stocking fresh minnows and cutting the fish for my customers.

The boat is finally tied back up at the dock and ready for perch season! 🎣
We had an incredible week on Lake Ontario out of Point Breeze, NY, chasing salmon with family and friends. We made it out six times throughout the week, boating 85 fish out of 120 hookups, with the total catch weighing in at over 1,000 pounds. It was an unforgettable week filled with great fishing, good company, and plenty of memories that will last long after the rods are put away.
While I don’t run charters on Lake Ontario, I can’t recommend the experience enough. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the salmon fishing out of Point Breeze, give me a shout. I’d be more than happy to connect you with another charter outfit that I highly recommend.
For now, it’s time to get the boat ready and turn our attention back to Lake Erie perch season. I’m looking forward to getting back on the water and seeing some familiar faces at the dock! 🎣

I trailered the boat to Point Breeze, New York, for some much-needed time away with family and friends. Thursday was our shakedown trip with just the family aboard, and it couldn't have gone much better. We finished with a limit, landing 15 of the 18 salmon and steelhead we hooked.

On Friday, some family friends joined us, and we put together another great day, finishing 18 for 23 to fill the boat limit once again.

Saturday morning, we squeezed in one last trip before everyone except me headed home. The fish had the upper hand that morning, and despite hooking 23, we landed 11.

Later that afternoon, four buddies arrived for the next five days of fishing. We headed back out and got right back on them, finishing with another boat limit by landing 17 of the 23 fish we hooked.

Today, Mother Nature had other plans and kept us off the lake. Hopefully, we'll be back after them tomorrow!

Fantastic crew, beautiful weather, and great fishing—there's no better way to wrap up the final walleye trip of the summer.
Today was one to remember as we put a full boat limit of Lake Erie walleye in the cooler, along with a few bonus yellow perch and some hard-fighting catfish to keep the action going. More than the fish, I'm grateful for the opportunity to spend another season making memories with so many great people on the water.
Thank you to everyone who trusted Reel Therapy Sportfishing this walleye season. I truly appreciate your support and can't wait to see you back aboard for perch season and another year of unforgettable days on Lake Erie!

This morning I had the pleasure of welcoming the Pauley family from West Virginia aboard for their very first fishing trip on Lake Erie. While the walleye fishing was on the slower side, the catfish and sheepshead made sure these boys stayed busy with plenty of action throughout the morning. We did have several monster walleye brought aboard including one Fish Ohio!
By early afternoon, full hearts, empty stomachs, and the summer heat told us it was time to head back to the dock. Not every trip is measured by the number of walleye in the cooler—sometimes it's about sharing new experiences, making memories as a family, and introducing the next generation to everything Lake Erie has to offer. Thanks, Pauley family, for spending the day with Reel Therapy Sportfishing. I hope to see you back on the lake again!

A short five hour trip this evening resulted in 19 walleye and 1 yellow perch. Thanks to the folks at Al Szuch Live Bait for sticking around to clean the customers fish. The walleye bite is slowing up, but there are still plenty around to keep us busy. I will be swapping out the walleye gear for perch gear after this weekend. Give me a call or shoot me a message if you would like to chase some Lake Erie gold!

Thursday Reel Therapy Sportfishing and More Gooder Fishing Charters played a small part in the Oregon Economic Development Foundation Summer Mixer-America 250 Celebration. We had the opportunity to ferry passengers out to the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse. Many of these passengers have never had the opportunity to view the lighthouse up close and in person. The weather was perfect, and the company all day was even better!
