Guys, we need to talk. I’ve been having issues this summer and fall with people leaving donations during our off hours. Not just some donations, a lot of donations. Like, a lot a lot.
There’s a couple of issues with this.
-Leaving donations during off hours is not allowed for many, many reasons.
-The donations being left behind are poor quality, 80% of it is dirty, stinks, unusable, or items we explicitly do not take.
-There are now *truckloads* of textile waste that need to be disposed of.
-Today, I reached my hand into a bag and pulled out a deeply soiled hospital gown and underwear. This can never happen again!
-it takes me HOURS to sort through these bags and prevents me from doing things that are productive and useful.
I have put signage all over the building letting visitors know that we do not accept donations after hours. At this point, I’m considering anything left after hours dumping. Crystal’s Closet is not a waste service and I have neither the time nor patience for this to continue.
Effective immediately:
-Donations are suspended through October. No exceptions.
-we will no longer be accepting garage sale leftovers or a full trunks or truckloads of clothing.
-Donations are limited to TWO kitchen sized trash bags per family. No exceptions.
-Oversized and overfilled bags will be refused. My back simply cannot handle it. No exceptions.
-NO boxes, it just creates garbage for me to dispose of and is hard on my body to carry.
-Any donations left after hours will be immediately disposed of. I won’t even look through the bags because I never want to touch what I touched today ever again.
Please, be mindful of what you are donating. Would you give it to a loved one? Are you just trying to get rid of stuff? Throwing away other people’s garbage is not sustainable for Crystal’s Closet.
Thank you to everyone who respects the processes that are put in place to make this a sustainable resource for all. We appreciate your donations and I love being able to offer clothing and a shopping experience that is totally free!❤️
These bags are grossly oversized and blocking access to the closet, men’s shoes, and ironically in front of 2 signs that say “Do not leave donations behind.”
