What is Juneteenth? Commemoration of the day in 1865 that Union Troops notified the last people that all enslaved were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was actually signed.
I cannot celebrate this holiday for my own ancestors, but I acknowledge and love it deeply for those whose history is different than mine.
Racism is far from gone in our society and that’s why the acknowledgment and commemoration of this special day in history is so important to Americans.
I’m thankful for freedom in the USA. Happy Juneteenth!
