Attention requires your brain to do more than just “focus.”

It has to filter distractions, shift between tasks, regulate impulses, and know what information deserves your attention.

When those systems aren’t working efficiently, everyday tasks can feel much harder than they should.

Neurofeedback uses real-time information about brain activity to help train more regulated brain patterns over time.

As we wrap up this month’s Pause & Process discussion, we’re sharing a few practical takeaways from Raising Mentally Strong Kids by Daniel G. Amen, MD, and Charles Fay, PhD.

Mental strength is not about preventing children from experiencing challenges. It is about helping them feel connected, practice problem-solving, take responsibility, and learn that they can handle difficult moments.

Parents do not have to practice every strategy at once. Choose one small idea from this handout to focus on this week.

Which reminder stands out to you the most?

Dawn-Petrice Youngs and Alexandra Roark had the opportunity to present at the ISNR 2026 Conference, leading a 3-hour workshop on “Unmasking the Underlying Cause: An Ethical Framework for Mental Health Diagnosis.”

Developed by Dr. Ron Swatzyna, the workshop focused on bringing neuroscience into the diagnostic process and encouraging clinicians to look beyond presenting symptoms to better understand what may be happening beneath the surface.

It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with other professionals, share knowledge, and continue advancing a more thoughtful and comprehensive approach to mental health care.

You read the same sentence three times.
You walk into a room and forget why.
You start one task, then somehow end up doing five others.

Difficulty focusing isn’t always about effort or motivation. Sometimes your brain is struggling to regulate attention efficiently.

Neurofeedback works with brain activity to support better regulation, helping the brain practice patterns associated with focus, attention, and cognitive performance.

You slept 8 hours… so why are you still tired?

The amount of time you spend asleep is only part of the picture. Sleep quality matters, too.

When the brain has difficulty settling into healthy, restorative patterns, you may wake up feeling foggy, drained, or like you never fully rested, even after a full night of sleep.

Neurofeedback helps train the brain toward healthier patterns of self-regulation, which may support better sleep and overall brain function.

Because sometimes it’s not about getting more sleep. It’s about getting better sleep.

Your brain does some of its most important work while you sleep.

During quality sleep, your brain clears waste, strengthens memories, restores healthy function, and prepares you for the day ahead. That's why getting enough good sleep is just as important as getting enough hours.

If you're struggling with sleep, neurofeedback may help support healthier brain regulation and better rest.

💡 Did you know? Feeling exhausted doesn't always mean you'll fall asleep easily.

Your brain needs to be able to transition into restful sleep, not just be physically tired. When brain regulation is off, falling asleep or staying asleep can still be a challenge.

Neurofeedback helps train the brain to regulate more efficiently, supporting healthier sleep and overall well-being.
