🎃 Happy Halloween from SCVMA! 👻

Halloween is fun for the whole family—but it can be spooky for our pets, too!

🐾 Keep candy (especially chocolate and xylitol-containing treats) out of reach.
🐾 Secure costumes if your pet is wearing one, and never force them to dress up.
🐾 Keep pets indoors during trick-or-treating to prevent escapes.
🐾 Watch for decorations, glow sticks, and other items that could become chew hazards.

🐾 Happy Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! 🩺💙

This week, we celebrate the incredible veterinary technicians who keep veterinary medicine moving every single day.
From monitoring anesthesia and caring for hospitalized patients to running diagnostics, assisting in surgery, educating clients, and comforting nervous pets — veterinary technicians do it all.
And by “all,” we also mean…
🐾 Grabbing the doctor by the shoulders and directing her toward her next exam room.
🐾 Making the beeping stop on that IV monitor.
🐾 Reminding Mrs. Jones — again — to keep the socks off the floor so Fluffy doesn’t need foreign body surgery #2.
🐾 Knowing where the thing is that everyone else has spent 10 minutes looking for.
🐾 Somehow getting the blood sample from the patient everyone else has already declared “impossible.”
🐾 Keeping patients comfortable, clients informed, doctors on schedule(ish), and the entire hospital functioning — often all at the same time.

Behind the humor is an enormous amount of knowledge, skill, compassion, patience, and dedication.
SCVMA is proud to recognize the RVTs and veterinary team members who make such an important difference for our patients, clients, and profession.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we know perfectly well who is really keeping things running. ❤️

🐶 Being a great dog owner is about more than belly rubs and treats!

On Responsible Dog Ownership Day, we’re celebrating the everyday choices that help our canine companions live happy, healthy lives. 🐾

Regular veterinary care, proper nutrition and exercise, training and socialization, identification and microchipping, and lots of love all go a long way toward giving our dogs their best lives.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY ☀️
With high temperatures in the forecast, remember that our pets feel the heat, too! Take a few extra precautions to keep them safe and comfortable:

🐾 Limit walks and outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
🐾 Check pavement before walking—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
🐾 Make sure pets always have access to fresh water and shade.
🐾 Never leave a pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
🐾 Watch closely for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or collapse.

Brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, senior pets, overweight pets, and those with heart or respiratory conditions can be especially vulnerable to heat.

If you think your pet may be experiencing heatstroke, seek veterinary care immediately.
Stay cool and keep those paws safe! 🐶🐱
