Poison Oak + Poison Ivy Hybrid!!!!!

Based on the notes left by world famous botanist William Gillis, we traveled up the Columbia River Gorge to find the site he first discovered in the 1960's where plants that are Poison Oak - Poison Ivy Hybrids grow. This small stretch of the Gorge between the Dalles, OR, Hood River, OR and Lyle WA is the only area in America where these plants can be found!!!

Western Poison Oak is the primary rash and itchy misery inducing plant in California, Oregon and Washington. If you hike out west you need to see this video!!

Like poison ivy, western poison oak can be a shrub or a vine, has "leaves of three", but the leaves are consistent lobed ( unlike poison ivy, which commonly has smooth leaflet edges)

How-To Identify Poison Ivy In the Summer: Poison ivy leaves Always have 3 separate leaflets ("Leaves of 3, Let it be"), but aside from that the leaves have all different sizes, shapes, sometimes leaflets have smooth edges, sometimes lobed edges. Poison Ivy leaves never have finely serrated/sawtooth edges. Poison Ivy never has thorns.

Below are poison ivy leaves of all different shapes and sizes, PLUS tips for how to identify poison ivy and to distinguish this itchy rash causing plant from other 3 leafed plants.
