🧦Fun Fact Friday: Let talk socks!

What exactly is a prosthetic sock—and why is it important?

A prosthetic sock is a soft, fabric layer worn over the residual limb and liner underneath a prosthetic socket. Socks come in different thicknesses, or ply, allowing the fit of the prosthesis to be adjusted as the limb naturally changes throughout the day.

So why are socks important?
🧦 Comfort: Helps cushion and protect the residual limb.
🦿 Fit: Helps maintain a secure, comfortable socket fit.
📏 Volume Management: Ply can be adjusted as residual limb becomes larger or smaller throughout the day.
🚶‍♀️ Function: A properly fitting prosthesis can help improve stability, comfort, and overall mobility.

💡 Pro Tip: If your prosthesis starts to feel loose, tight, or uncomfortable, your sock ply may need adjusting.

We love when our patients share how they are living life to the fullest. Recently, one of our patients went on an awesome motorcycle trip with his wife. They left Amarillo, Texas and traveled to Ridgeway, Colorado and then Ouray, Colorado and back to Ridgeway to complete the San Juan Skyway Loop. Their trip totaled around 1700 miles of beautiful scenery. Mr. Satcher said, "I could not have made the trip if it hadn't been for your team building top notch prosthetics." We love to see how boundaries are limitless!
