The internet will show you what’s cute. I’m showing you what’s safe. 🩺
As a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner AND a Latina mama I did my research before anyone came near my baby’s ears and now I’m sharing everything with you so you don’t have to figure it out alone.
⏰ Timing matters Wait until your baby is at least 3 to 4 months old AND has completed at least their first round of tetanus vaccinations. I personally waited until after my daughter’s third vaccine. This is non negotiable for me as a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner.
👩⚕️ Who is doing it matters even more Choose a qualified nurse or trained professional using sterile equipment only. We went to and I loved that their procedures are performed by actual nurses.
👂Skip the piercing gun Traditional piercing guns are spring loaded and harder to control. Rowan uses a hand pressurized device that is completely guided by the nurse’s hands more control, more precision, safer for your baby.
💛 Jewelry selection 14k gold, silver, or hypoallergenic round stud earrings only. Avoid anything with nickel it is the number one cause of allergic reactions and infections in babies and children.
✅ Aftercare, do this right ✔️ Always wash your hands before touching the earrings ✔️ Clean with hypochlorous acid solution 2 to 3 times a day front and back for 30 days it’s antimicrobial, reduces inflammation, and speeds healing ✔️ Rotate the earring once while wet after cleaning ✔️ Do not tighten the earring backs leave room on both sides ✔️ Disinfect anything that goes near the ears once daily ✔️ Keep hypoallergenic earrings in 24/7 for at least one full year
🚨 Watch for these red flags Redness that spreads, warmth, swelling, discharge, or fever. If you see any of these call your healthcare provider right away.
She was brave. I was a mess. Abuela finally exhaled. 😂🥹💜
Save this before you book that appointment and share it with every mama you know. 👇🩺
