After our kimono photoshoot, Shaila and I decided to keep our kimonos on and explore a little longer. 👘✨

We visited Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest temple, purified our hands at the Temizuya, received blessings at the Jōkoro incense burner, and pulled Omikuji fortunes. In Japan, you keep the good fortunes and leave the bad ones tied behind at the temple.

We spent the rest of the afternoon strolling through Nakamise Street, enjoying lunch, street snacks, and soaking in the atmosphere before returning our kimonos and heading back to the hotel. .kimono.asakusa

One of those simple but impactful day that ends up being a favorite memory. ❤️🇯🇵

One of our favorite experiences in Tokyo 🇯🇵👘✨

Getting dressed in a kimono is an art in itself. Every fold, tuck, and tie is done with incredible precision, transforming a beautiful piece of fabric into a timeless expression of Japanese tradition and elegance.

A huge thank you to Ann Kimono Rental for making the experience so special. From the kimonos and hair styling to the attention to every little detail, they made us feel absolutely beautiful as we explored Asakusa and Sensō ji Temple. .kimono.asakusa

If you’re visiting Tokyo, add this to your bucket list. The memories and photos are something you’ll cherish forever. 💕✨

Happy 11th Birthday, Surya! 🐢💚

Two days before you were born, a turtle wandered into our yard. At the time, it felt special, but I never realized how meaningful that little visit would become.

Since then, turtles seem to find their way back into our lives around your birthday, almost like little reminders that they are watching over you. In many cultures, turtles symbolize wisdom, strength, protection, good fortune, and a long, meaningful journey through life.

Our most recent turtle encounter happened all the way in Japan. As we were exploring near Osaka Castle, a kind older gentleman walked up to us and gifted us a tiny baby turtle. Such a simple gesture, yet it immediately brought me back to those days before you were born and the turtle that first appeared in our yard.

Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe it’s luck. Or maybe it’s just one of those beautiful little signs that life gives us along the way.

You have brought so much joy, curiosity, laughter, and love into our lives these past 11 years. As you begin another trip around the sun, I hope you carry the turtle’s gifts with you: wisdom to learn, strength to overcome challenges, patience to grow, and a little bit of luck wherever life takes you.

Happy 11th Birthday, Surya. May your journey be as extraordinary as the signs that have followed you from the very beginning. ❤️🐢✨

Of course I had to get the Kill Bill Onitsuka Tigers 🐯💛

While most people recognize them from Kill Bill, the story of these shoes goes back much further.

Onitsuka Tiger was founded in Japan in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka with a mission to inspire young people through sports after World War II.

The Mexico 66 is one of the brand’s most iconic designs. It debuted in 1966 and was the first shoe to feature the famous crossed stripes that would later become the ASICS logo. The shoe was originally created for athletes preparing for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, which is where the name “Mexico 66” comes from.

Decades later, the yellow and black colorway became a global fashion icon after Uma Thurman wore it in Kill Bill. Today, it blends Japanese heritage, athletic history, and pop culture into one sneaker.

And what better place to buy a pair than Japan itself? 🇯🇵✨

Winding down our day in Ginza ✨

First stop was the famous stationery paradise, Itoya, where we spent way too much time browsing all the beautiful pens, notebooks, and unique finds.

📍 Ginza Itoya Stationery

Then all that shopping made us hungry, so we stopped for a delicious bowl of ramen at Ginza Kagari, known for its rich chicken-based soba noodles.

📍 Ginza Kagari - Soba

Of course, we couldn’t leave without picking up our Onitsuka Tigers. We went with popular Kill Bill yellow pairs and a pink and white. The best part is that Shaila and I can share them since we’re the same size. 💕👟

A perfect Ginza day filled with shopping and good food. 🇯🇵✨

Day 1 in Tokyo 🇯🇵✨

We’re staying at Mimaru and honestly loving it so far! The jet lag hasn’t been too bad since we were able to get some sleep on the plane. As a family of 7, having everyone together in one room is a game changer. The kids have bunk beds, we have a kitchen, plus a washer and dryer, which makes traveling with a big family so much easier.

Started the morning with a quick outfit check ☀️
Dress: Shoes: flats
Shorts: Belt:

Then it was off to grab breakfast from before heading out to explore Ginza. So excited to see what our first full day in Tokyo has in store! ❤️

Our family of 7 flew to Japan with Japan Airlines, and they truly made the journey part of the adventure ✈️🇯🇵

The flight attendants were so kind, patient and accommodating, making sure we were comfortable throughout the long flight.

Traveling internationally with five kids can be a lot, but Japan Airlines helped make it smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable. We would definitely fly with them again!

Prepping for a long trip always takes a little extra work, but it’s so worth it. ✈️✨

Before we leave, I like to take care of a few essentials so that when we come home, we can ease back into life instead of feeling overwhelmed.

✔️ Laundry done
✔️ House cleaned
✔️ Fridge organized
✔️ Bills paid
✔️ Supplements packed
✔️ Travel documents ready
✔️ Content scheduled
✔️ Home stocked with a few necessities for our return

It may seem like a lot, but future me is always grateful when vacation doesn’t end with a mountain of chores waiting at home. ❤️

What are your must do tasks before a long trip? I’d love to hear your travel prep tips!
