A shout out to DCDS member Dr. Amp Miller!

Dr. Amp Miller will absolutely hate that I'm referring to him as a legend. But true legends don't chase that title. They work hard every day to inspire others to build a better, healthier world.

That's what Dr. Miller has done for 53 years.

Yep. 53 years.

He was a student when we were Baylor University College of Dentistry. He was a faculty member when we became a standalone dental school, and then part of Texas A&M University in Dallas more than 30 years ago.

Amp Miller trained generations of dentists - 6,000 by the dean's count (fun fact: he taught our dean when she was a dental student). Our students chose him as Teacher of the Year FIVE TIMES. That's an acknowledgement of the impact he's had on everyone who has worked with him.

Dr. Miller, a prosthodontist, has been a constant presence on campus, having taught a wide range of courses, from preclinical to graduate prosthodontics. He even stepped up to serve as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.

As you'll read in the story below, Dr. Miller hopes he is remembered as a “capable, caring educator that tried to make the programs as good as they could be and help the students when they need help”.

Amen. I can't wait to see who stands up and takes on the responsibility of inspiring the next generation of oral healthcare professionals.

Congratulations to Alexander Feldman, recipient of the inaugural Dallas County Dental Society Foundation D3 Volunteerism Scholarship, presented at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry Community Outreach Award Ceremony on May 12.

Alexander was recognized for his exceptional commitment to volunteer service, leadership and academic excellence while serving underserved communities throughout dental school.

18 DCDS members represented our local component at the 2026 TDA House of Delegates this past week. We’re excited to celebrate two outstanding recognitions:

Dr. Jon Vogel was honored with the 2026 Rising Star of the Lone Star Award — recognizing a dentist within their first 10 years of practice who demonstrates exceptional leadership, excellence, and promise in the profession, as selected by their peers.

DCDS Executive Director, Jane Evans, received the TDA President’s Award for her dedication and service to organized dentistry.

Congratulations to these remarkable leaders for representing DCDS and the future of dentistry so well!
