I was working yesterday and listening to Kill Tony in the background as I often do. After this comic had a GREAT 1 minute set, they introduced themselves as a postpartum, birth doula, lactation educator, placenta encapsulator, and postpartum educator! Wow! First time I've head a comic on the show who is also a doula! So, so, so awesome!

She was giving, and not just as a mother,⁣
but as a friend, partner, family member, and co-worker.⁣
And she never took the easy way out.⁣
She admitted when she was wrong, she listened, and she didn’t care about anyone else’s opinions of what kind of parent she was. She parented with only our hearts in mind.⁣
And when life gave her or the people she loved challenges, she fought hard.⁣

𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭.⁣
She struggled with her mental health at times.⁣
She lost it,⁣
she made so many mistakes,⁣
and we saw her cry because she didn’t believe in pushing her feelings down and ignoring them.⁣

To always try again and put one foot in front of the other and carry on.⁣

And if someone reaches out to help, not to push them away.⁣
It’s okay to let them join you in the pain, walk with you,⁣
so you aren't alone.⁣
She did that for us by holding our hands, lamenting over ice cream, and processing everything together.⁣

We never felt alone.⁣

There's an error that they will hopefully correct, but I'm too impatient to wait for them to fix it before I share it! The first question should say "If you're a parent, what is the most impactful thing you've done for them?" or something to that effect.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sagan Webb- Butler and we've shared our conversation below. Hi Sagan, how does your business help the community? Hmm.. well, in all honesty, I don’t think I get to decide that. That will be for my children to decide as they grow. I know how I hope to ha

As a new mom we often diminish out feelings and emotions especially during postpartum and we must make a change. Your feelings are valid. PERIOD!

Whatever you do that supports you and your baby, you can say it just as it is.

Often we say "We are STILL breastfeeding or STILL bedsharing or STILL accompanying our baby to sleep"

This implies there is a rush, a timer, a race - to ending any of the things that are nurturing for you and your baby.

It implies we are weak or bad or ashamed of meeting our babies needs.

It implies babies shouldn't need support and should be independent as soon as possible.

There is no rush. Babies need us, children need us and adult children need us.

You are strong and powerful for supporting your baby, your child, your adult child.

When we rush or feel shame - no one in our family benefits

When we support our baby and ourselves and feel confidence - everyone in our family benefits

I breastfed my baby for 3 years
I bedshare with my 4 year old
I hug my child to sleep every night
I support my child's distress
I share my child's joy

And I will do all of these things and more as long as there is a need
