Love when we cross-train between our community midwives and hospital-based providers to make transports better for the families we serve. We learn from them & they learn from us. Teamwork & collaborative care benefits us all in our common goal. 💕

20 years ago today I graduated from my midwifery program. 🎓Time flies when you are catching babies! Thank you to all the families over the last 20 years (plus the years of apprenticeship before that!) that have welcomed me into your homes as we welcomed your sweet babies.

So thankful to be Mom-Approved again for 2026 - Eleven years in a row now! 💕 So very honored by everyone who took the time to nominate me & to all the families that invite me to be a part of their pregnancies & births. I’m looking forward to another year of continuing to serve families & continuing to earn the Mom-Approved honor.

And so wraps up 2025. 31 Barefoot Births (and one Honorary Barefoot Birth in Austin that I’m still claiming as one of ours 😉) Then another 34 births where I assisted other midwives. For a total of 65 in-person births & one honorary out-of-town birth. Thank you all for welcoming me into your families and your homes this year. 💕 I’m excited to put together our annual statistics now that all our 2025 babies are here to share with you.
🥰
Looking forward to all our 2026 babies!

Birth Story Time! As told by mom, Dr. Christina Lemons, who many of our followers know & several of our clients see as their prenatal Webster-certified chiropractor at in Frisco.

The Birth of Ellis Ford Lemons. Shared with permission.

Wednesday, October 1st, was my last scheduled day of work. I woke up with some low back pain – pretty normal at 38 weeks & 5 days pregnant – but as the morning went on, something felt different. The pressure was heavier, I was nauseous, and my back pain started coming in waves. I wondered if they might be contractions, but figured it was just early labor and went about adjusting my last few patients.

By the time I got home around 2pm, the waves were coming every 10 minutes. I started timing them and texting Caleb, who quickly realized I was having contractions and rushed home. We cleaned and prepped our house – just in case. By 5 PM, the contractions were stronger and steady – there was no ignoring it anymore.

We sat down for dinner, but I could only take a few bites. It was 7 PM and they were 5 minutes apart. For the next couple of hours, it was just Caleb and me, moving, breathing, praying through each wave. At one point. I looked at him with tears in my eyes, and whispered, “I’m scared.” He hugged me, encouraged me, and we prayed together – I was beginning to accept that this was happening, ready or not.

By 9:30, I knew I needed more support, so we called my doula. She arrived just before 10 and helped me through each contraction – massaging my back, guiding my movements, grounding me with her calm. My midwife arrived around 11. My Doula had the intuition to have me labor on the toilet. I was reluctant because it is such an intense place (if you know, you know) but I followed her lead and with two very powerful contractions, my water broke with a pop and a gush.

Different than imagined, but perfect. We plan, we envision, we prepare… And then we roll with what is. 💙 That trust, that listening to her body, that honoring what was different… And her baby was born into her own hands at home. Different, but perfect. 💙
