• Formal organization was established in 1969 to educate and support nurses working in newly developed intensive care units
• Today, AACN is the largest specialty nursing organization in the world, representing more than 100,000 nurses from every state in the U.S. and 45 countries

History of The Dallas County Chapter of AACN
• Established in 1972 by a group of critical care nurses in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, in response to a need for support and education in this brand new, specialized area of nursing
• Met at the Oak Lawn Methodist Church (because it was free!)
• Started with 25 members from all over the Metroplex
• Monthly meetings had a guest speaker and refreshments
• Continues to this day to offer networking and continuing education opportunities to the critical and acute care nurses of the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex
• Dallas County Chapter of AACN is dedicated to continuous support of our members through our core chapter functions in accordance with the national AACN mission & vision
