💯To me, quality, traditional midwifery is all about noticing when something is starting to subtly diverge from that persons normal and gently steering it back on course.
📝 The blood pressure that is rising just a bit above normal.
💛The swelling accumulating that alerts us the tissue state needs support but is not yet diagnostic for anything.
🤯The stress and mental emotional state that says the nervous system needs support and minerals, BEFORE the body burns through what it has and creates a disease state.
‼️Traditional midwifery sees the divergence and offers something the body needs. You could call it returning to baseline or maintaining homeostasis. Whatever it is, we love it and see good outcomes because it supports physiology. Instead of waiting for pathology to develop, we prevent it from starting in the first place.
😍 At a recent home birth, these homeopathics addressed exactly this. Nausea preventing the ability to eat or drink. We need food to have the power and stamina to contract and push out our babies. After Nux vomica, we could eat and drink again and we had the power for a normal birth at home.
🎉 Blood pressure rising from normal, telling us the body needed something. Natrum muriaticum came in and brought us back.
📈Swelling and possible anterior lip ➡️ homeopathic arnica to the rescue to facilitate full dilation and prevent tearing.
➡️Homeopathy is just one tool, as is sunlight, hydration, real foods, movement, community, herbal medicine, and anything else that brings about the support our bodies need.
‼️‼️‼️This is why people choose midwifery care. It is individualized based on the woman’s tissue state, not just a protocol, not just waiting to see what happens.
➡️That is what makes the difference and why our successful home birth rate is so HIGH and our transport and cesarean rate is so LOW. It’s not just about freedom of movement and intermittent monitoring anymore. It’s about correcting things before we get too far off course.
❓What is something that helped you maintain your health that you would want another mom to know about?

🎂August was full of birthdays including one of our favorite midwives, Becky! 🎉 Happy Birthday, Becky! We love you and are so grateful you are part of our team!
💗 Becky covers our midwife line phone number so that our clients can talk to a midwife anytime and be received with compassion and a listening ear. Becky also assists at births when available, runs clinic once a month, checks on our postpartum moms, teaches our childbirth classes, and catches babies whenever it’s Bethany’s day off!
🤩Some of our favorite things about Becky include:
🥰 her empathy for all our clients especially because she has been there! From long labors to precipitous labors, she totally gets it because she has experienced both!
😍 her love for evidence and new research. She always shares the latest with us and we love learning new things along with her.
📝 how she remembers the big picture AND all the little details that make for a beautiful birth experience!
💕 her reliability as she answers the phone whether it is 2am or 2pm!
🙏 her prayers for all of us even when she is not physically at a birth!
Becky is an integral part of our team and I’m so grateful to have her as a colleague and friend! Happy Birthday, Becky!

🎉 AUGUST BABIES 🥰
Our August has been full of little feet making their way earthside:
💙 August 8th at 10:04am
💗 August 9th at 9:24am
💗 August 17th at 5:25pm
💙 August 19th at 6:15am
💗 August 21st at 11:39pm
Some July babies came in August making this a full month but everyone took their turns- our favorite! 3 have been 🌊 water births, one standing, and one on the bed, all born at home!
🎉 We can’t wait to meet our final August baby and for his mama’s sake, we hope he is not a September baby!

🎉 Happy Birthday to Jessica—our calendar queen, faithful admin support, and the very first-ever North Texas Midwifery client back in 2018! ❤️

Jessica has been part of our NTX Midwifery story from the very beginning, and we’re so grateful she’s still part of it today. Becky and Bethany have had the privilege of serving her through three births over the years—one when Bethany was a student, and two more through North Texas Midwifery. It’s pretty special to have walked alongside someone through so many seasons of their family’s story! Picture credit likely to Jessica’s husband back in 2018 when we were just starting 🥰

These days, Jessica keeps us organized, reaches out to clients when chaos ensues and we’re suddenly running to births and need to reschedule clinic, and remembers all the things we inevitably forget after finally getting some sleep following a birth. 😂

We truly couldn’t do what we do without her behind the scenes keeping things moving. Happy Birthday, Jessica! We’re so thankful for you, your faithfulness, and all the ways you support our team! 🥳💕-Midwife Bethany and everyone at North Texas Midwifery

📝 Not just a weight, not just a check in, but many small, and big decisions, lead us here. At postpartum visits, we reflect on how you are doing but also all of the goals you have reached! Giving birth is a big deal and you should be celebrated! 🎉 Long nights are a big deal, and getting through those should be celebrated, too. 🎉We are so proud of you, mama! Thanks for inviting us to be part of your journey. We see you 💕

🥵It is so hot out here and so hard to stay hydrated 🥵We feel it ourselves but are hearing it from all of our clients, too!
🧊🧃Let’s all pick our favorite electrolytes and remember some extra motivation to come to your prenatal visits so hydrated!
💧 Reasons to Come to Your Prenatal Appointment Hydrated 💧

🩸Easier blood draws
💉 Being well-hydrated helps keep your veins fuller and easier to access, which can make blood draws quicker and more comfortable. For us midwives, hydrated veins are also easier to find so we are less likely to need to stick you more than once!

💛Better urine samples
💧 Hydration helps you provide an adequate urine sample for testing and can make results easier to interpret.
Very concentrated urine can sometimes affect certain urine measurements leading to concerns that may not be present in less concentrated urine.

💕More comfortable belly checks
🤰 Adequate hydration supports normal fluid balance and can help your uterus feel more relaxed during your appointment. Remember, Dehydration can trigger more Braxton Hicks contractions, which may make abdominal palpation and checking baby’s position more uncomfortable for you. Your muscles and ligaments can also become dehydrated making your belly tighter.
🌊 Dehydration can also cause low amniotic fluid levels. Adequate amniotic fluid is an important part of a healthy pregnancy and further assessment with additional ultrasounds may be recommended if fluid levels seem low.
👌Drink plenty of water throughout the day—not just right before you arrive, for yourself but also for your baby!

Your midwife will thank you. Your veins will thank you. Your belly will thank you. 🤍

🌱Blood building Remedies! 🧃🩸
❤️‍🩹Building the blood after birth is so important! After some births with heavier blood loss, or postpartum hemorrhage, building the blood can be vital. Without it, recovery, restoration, and supporting the mother’s body in healing and making adequate breast milk can be difficult, if not impossible.
🌱 Chlorophyll and pomegranate juice is one of our favorite combos to build the blood in a way that actually tastes good! These two natural remedies really help nourish the body to produce more healthy blood.
🥰Thanks to instacart (haha) this mama started drinking this combo within a few hours of birth!
💚Chlorophyll is nicknamed “green blood”, or “plant blood”, because the molecule resembles hemoglobin. Where the hemoglobin contains iron, chlorophyll contains magnesium. Chlorophyll helps to oxygenate the body, especially after blood loss.
♥️ Pomegranate is a traditional blood builder because it contains antioxidants that protect blood vessels and vitamin C needed to help absorb iron. It likely helps bring oxygen throughout the body because of these factors, which is vital after blood loss.
🖤 While iron rich foods, herbs, and sometimes supplements are recommended to build blood, chlorophyll and pomegranate bring the extra co-factors needed for absorption while decreasing side effects of iron, like constipation. Add some blackstrap molasses, and you have a great combo.
❓What has helped you after blood loss, anemia, or recovering after birth? We would love to hear all about it!
