22Q Texas, Inc.

22Q Texas, Inc. We are a volunteer-run nonprofit serving families affected by 22q11.2 chromosome differences. None of the anomalies occur in all cases.

Join us for the 14th Annual 22q Texas Family Camp Retreat - November 7-9, 2025, in San Antonio! 🏕️ 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, also known as VCFS, DiGeorge Syndrome and Shprintzen Syndrome– is caused by the absence of a small segment of the long arm of chromosome 22, and is one of the most common genetic disorders in humans, occurring in an estimated 1 in 1200 births. Despite the involvement of a v

ery specific portion of chromosome 22, there is great variation in the features of this syndrome. The list of anomalies includes: cleft palate; heart defects; similar, subtle facial features; learning and difficulties; hypoparathyroidism; immune system problems; weak muscles; scoliosis; dental problems; GI issues; emotional/behavioral/psychiatric issues including ADHD & autism, and more. A similar disorder is 22q11.2 duplication, where the same section is duplicated rather than missing. The symptoms and anomalies are very similar to the deletion. Another, more rare variation is the 22q11.2 distal deletion. Because of the varied names and conditions, we chose to use the more inclusive nomenclature, 22q.

It follows the journey of the International 22q11.2 Foundation’s Director, Carol Cavana's son Louis, and discusses symptoms associated with chromosome 22q differences and the importance of early detection and coordinated multidisciplinary care.

A heartfelt thank you to Joeris General Contractors, LLC who made a generous donation to 22q Texas!

Joeris has a wonderful tradition of raising funds and supporting local organizations that their staff are passionate about. We are honored to be chosen as a recipient of their community giving, and this means the world to our families.

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, 22q Texas is dedicated to supporting families living with or loving someone affected by 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Our mission is to create a community of support for our families and provide resources, raise awareness across medical, educational, and public communities, and ensure that individuals with 22q are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. Every dollar we receive goes directly toward programs that change lives and create meaningful impact for our families.

Donations like this from Joeris make our work possible. Without the generosity and support of community partners who believe in our mission, we simply couldn't do what we do.

To the team at Joeris and the staff members who championed 22q Texas – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are so grateful for your partnership and commitment to making a difference.
Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive community for individuals with 22q and their families. Thank you, Joeris! 💜
