Your dopamine system isn’t broken. It may just be overworked.

Chronic stress and poor sleep can affect your brain’s ability to produce and respond to dopamine, leaving you feeling flat, unmotivated, or stuck reaching for quick hits of stimulation that never quite satisfy.

The good news? There are real, research-backed ways to support a healthier dopamine system.

We’re breaking down 10 of them, from simple daily habits to what’s actually happening at the cellular level, so you understand not just what to do, but why it works.

To close out this series, Dr. David walks through what recovery actually looks like in the days after an extraction, and why this is a practice he returns to twice a day rather than a one time fix. He talks openly about the discipline it takes, and why he is willing to put in that work himself before ever recommending it to a patient.

This is root cause medicine. It is not fast, and it is not glamorous, but it is honest about what real healing takes.

If any part of this series felt familiar, chronic symptoms that never quite resolved, a body that feels like it is working against you, this is exactly the kind of case a consultation is built around.

Thank you for following along through all five parts. Book a consultation to talk through what this could look like for you.

Part 3: Ten days in, twice a day, four hours of this daily. Seventeen points across his head and body, blistered and starting to scar. He gets through it with mantra, walking meditation, and prayer, and a Nietzsche line about impermanence that he says has kept him steady through it. This is the part where you see it, not just hear about it, so consider this your heads up before you press play.

He's not doing this because it's easy. He's doing it because he believes it's the difference between managing symptoms and actually clearing what's underneath them, and because after 15 years treating toxicity in patients, he wanted to understand it in his own body first.

Part 5 coming soon: the recovery process, and what he's carrying forward from this into how he treats patients. Follow along, or book a consultation to learn how root cause medicine could apply to you.

In Part 3, Dr. David walks through what happens right after prep: an herbal plaster applied for 24 hours to move qi and open the tissue, then extraction cupping, and this isn't the cupping most people picture. 40 minutes to an hour at high intensity, pulling from well below the surface.

What comes out varies in color and texture, each one read differently within the traditional Chinese medicine model. His practitioners joke that Americans must be unusually toxic, since they've never seen this much come out of one person.

This is root cause medicine, not a quick fix.

Part 4 coming soon: he shows you exactly what it looks like, and explains why he's still doing this twice a day. Follow along, or book a consultation to learn how this could apply to you.

Why does the body hold onto toxins in the first place? In Part 2, Dr. David breaks down what's actually happening in the tissue, and shows the cupping technique used to help pull it out. This is root cause medicine, not a quick fix. Part 3 coming soon: the medicine plaster step most people have never seen. Follow along, or book a consultation to learn how this could apply to you.

Ten days of pain to undo decades of it. Would you do it?

That was the question that brought me to Chengdu, China.

I’m here studying a Daoist lineage traced back to Hua Tuo, a physician from around 200 CE who was centuries ahead of his time. His work focused on specific points along the spine, known as the Jing Gu points, which were believed to influence different organ systems throughout the body.

I came here to experience this therapy firsthand and explore how these ancient principles might relate to modern health.

This is Part 1 of a five-part series. Over the next two weeks, I’ll share what this therapy is, why I believe toxicity plays a significant role in many chronic health conditions, and what I experienced during the process. Some of it isn’t easy to watch, but it’s all part of the journey.

Watch the full video on YouTube through the link in my bio, and follow along so you don’t miss Part 2.

Would you do it? Tell me in the comments.

Ever fix your gut... only to have the same symptoms come right back? 🤔

It happens more often than people realize—and it might not actually be just a gut problem.

Your brain and gut are constantly communicating through one of their primary communication pathways: the vagus nerve. Think of it as a phone line helping the two stay connected.

Many gut-focused protocols—including the Functional Medicine 5R approach—focus on improving what's happening inside the digestive tract. Those steps can be incredibly helpful.

But if communication along the gut-brain axis has been disrupted by chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, inflammation, or other underlying factors, gut symptoms may continue or return if those contributors aren't also addressed.

Think of it like this:

🌊 Your gut is a pond.
🏞️ Your brain is the river feeding it.

You can clean the pond, but if the river isn't flowing properly, the pond may eventually become stagnant again.

That's why Functional Medicine looks beyond symptoms to understand how the brain, gut, nervous system, hormones, nutrition, and lifestyle all work together to support long-term health.

💬 Have you ever felt like your gut issues keep coming back no matter what you try?

Excited to be speaking tonight alongside Judah Veitel and the team at Quicksilver Scientific to a sold-out room of 50 doctors on one of the most important emerging topics in modern functional medicine: advanced peptide therapeutics and immune regulation. 🌿🧪

We’ll be diving deep into how chronic inflammation is often not simply “too much inflammation,” but rather a failure of immune signaling, barrier integrity, and proper resolution. In a world where we are seeing explosive increases in MCAS, autoimmunity, chronic inflammatory conditions, chemical sensitivities, histamine intolerance, neuroinflammation, and hypersensitive nervous systems, it is becoming increasingly clear that many patients are stuck in self-perpetuating inflammatory loops that conventional approaches alone often fail to fully resolve.

Tonight I’ll be teaching how peptides like KPV, BPC-157, and Thymulin can be strategically integrated into a deeper root-cause framework to help calm inflammatory signaling, restore barrier integrity, retrain immune tolerance, and create enough physiologic stability for patients to finally tolerate the deeper work that truly moves the needle long term. We’ll also be discussing advanced liposomal nano-nutraceutical delivery systems and how improving absorption and cellular delivery can dramatically change clinical outcomes in highly sensitive and chronically ill patients.

And yes — there will even be a custom liposomal nano-nutraceutical bar where attendees can create their own potent therapeutic elixirs.

Huge thank you to Quicksilver Scientific for collaborating with me on this exciting educational event and for continuing to push the field forward. Excited for the conversations tonight and for helping more practitioners think beyond superficial symptom suppression toward truly restoring resilience, immune intelligence, and long-term stability. 🙏🌿

Instead of fighting about autism and turning every new study into a political debate, let’s focus on what really matters — doing what’s best for our kids.

Autism is a complex condition. Genetics play only a small role, while most cases are shaped by a “perfect storm” of environmental triggers that lead to neuroinflammation and altered brain development.

The recent headlines about acetaminophen (Tylenol) and autism aren’t as shocking as they sound. Research linking prenatal acetaminophen use to higher autism risk was published over six years ago. This does not mean that Tylenol is the sole cause of autism, or that taking it during pregnancy guarantees an autism diagnosis. It is simply one of many contributors that can add up, especially when combined with:

- Genetic variants like MTHFR or in other detox pathways
- Maternal toxic burden (chemicals, heavy metals)
- Overuse of antibiotics → candida overgrowth
- High vaccine exposure with aluminum/mercury adjuvants

One proposed mechanism is key: acetaminophen depletes glutathione, the body’s “master antioxidant” and primary detoxifier. When glutathione is low — and children are already born with high toxic loads — fat-soluble toxins can build up in the brain, interfering with healthy neurodevelopment. See future post about all the other proposed mechanisms.

This is not about fear or blame. It’s about being informed and proactive. We owe it to our kids to reduce risk factors where we can, create healthier environments, and work together — not fight — to give them the best chance to thrive.
