With four kids, a nursing "newborn", and a startup, homeschooling is not always easy but it is a lot more doable than I thought it would be when we started on this journey. So, if you’re on the fence about it let this be your sign.

Elliana turned 8 at the end of March and is about to be tested on whether or not she's ready for fifth grade work. Her exit assessment includes:

✍️Personal narrative writing
🔍 Informative/research writing
🌉Grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
📕 Vocabulary, affixes, synonyms, and antonyms
🔢 Place value and rounding
➗️ Multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
📖 Word problems and mathematical reasoning
⏹️ Geometry (angles, symmetry, parallel and perpendicular lines)
🟨 Area and perimeter
🔣 Fractions, equivalent fractions, mixed numbers, and fraction models
💵 Decimals, money, and fraction-decimal conversions

She's been working hard to prepare for this test so we're all looking forward to see how she does. Either way, I'm very proud of her. 🫂

One of the most common questions is:

"If donor milk is so valuable, why aren't donors paid for it?"

The answer is complicated, but it comes down to four core principles:

🤍 Safety
🤍 Ethics
🤍 Equity
🤍 Access

Human milk donation is modeled after blood, tissue, and organ donation. The goal is to help babies and families in need while minimizing financial pressures that could influence collection, disclosure, or distribution practices.

That doesn't mean donor milk isn't valuable.

In fact, its value is immeasurable.

Every ounce represents time, effort, sacrifice, and often a mother's deep desire to help another child thrive. Donors may never meet the families they help, but their impact can last a lifetime.

Whether milk is shared through a milk bank or directly between families, donor milk exists because parents choose generosity over profit.

To every milk donor: thank you. Your gift matters.

Not sure which part of this activity was enjoyed most or by whom...the making, the eating, or the viewing. All the kids enjoyed watching Atreus make and eat his first food. 🤍

A mother who breastfeeds for six months will have produced roughly 1,800–3,600 oz in that time—equivalent to 14–28 gallons of liquid gold.

Will have spent around 900 hours pumping or nursing.

Will haved saved an impressive $1,440–$2,880 by producing her own milk.

And thanks to the unmatched immune and bioactive benefits, their milk’s true value is estimated at $6,300–$12,600!
