Jubilee Speech Therapy llc Jubilee Speech Therapy helps adults in Baldwin County, AL communicate clearly & safely through speech, language, memory, voice & swallowing therapy.

Serving Fairhope, Daphne, Foley & beyond. Now accepting new patients. I’m Valerie Lanier, M.S., CCC-SLP, and I’m the owner of Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC in Daphne, Alabama. I serve individuals and families across Daphne, Fairhope, and Baldwin County, including the greater Mobile and Baldwin County, AL area. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences (minor in Psychology) from the University of South Alabama (2013) and my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (2015) from the same university. I have 8 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist (Speech Therapist) in Skilled Nursing Facility settings, treating adult conditions such as stroke/CVA, traumatic brain injury (TBI), Parkinson’s disease, dementia, cognitive-communication disorders, and dysphagia (swallowing disorders). My work is driven by two big passions: communication and swallowing. Most people expect mobility might change over time, but almost nobody anticipates what it feels like when talking becomes difficult, or when eating and drinking stop feeling simple. I knew I was in the right field when I observed a stroke survivor with expressive aphasia fight their way back to saying, “I love you.”

I’m especially passionate about swallowing therapy because swallowing impacts more than nutrition; it impacts confidence and connection. Meals are where life happens. When swallowing becomes difficult, people often start avoiding food and social gatherings, and isolation grows fast. My goal is to help you safely rebuild skills so daily life feels normal again. At Jubilee Speech Therapy, I provide adult speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and swallowing therapy (dysphagia treatment) in in-home and outpatient settings so the progress we make carries over into everyday routines. Common questions I hear:
Do you offer in-home speech therapy in Daphne, AL? Yes—depending on your needs and location. Do you treat swallowing problems (dysphagia)? Yes, including swallow rehabilitation and
safe-strategy training. Do you help after stroke? Yes—speech, language, and cognitive-communication support
for stroke recovery. If you or a loved one is experiencing speech changes, language difficulty, memory or thinking challenges, voice concerns, or swallowing difficulty, I’m here in Daphne, Alabama to help. Call or message Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC to schedule an evaluation and get clear next steps.

Speech therapy isn’t only about what happens between the SLP and the patient. Family members can also learn practical ways to support communication, memory, swallowing strategies and everyday independence, because the more everyone understands what helps, the easier it is to carry those strategies into daily life.

This is why we work with a patient's family members, so they become active participants in their loved one's recovery.

“Speech therapy” is actually a pretty small name for a very big job.

Speech-language pathologists work with communication, thinking, memory, voice, swallowing, language and speech. In simple terms? They help you do more of the everyday things that help you stay connected, confident and independent.

Sometimes the best thing a speech therapist can tell you is they think someone else should get involved. That's because swallowing problems don't all happen in the same place. Sometimes the difficulty is in the mouth or throat. Other times, food seems to go down but then feels stuck farther along. These type of details help us determine whether speech therapy is the right next step or whether another specialist, such as a gastroenterologist, should take a closer look.

That's not passing you off to somebody else. It's helping you get to the right person for the right problem.

At Jubilee Speech Therapy, the goal isn't simply to provide therapy, it's to help figure out what's going on and the best course of action you need next.

Two people can have the exact same diagnosis and experience it very differently. Which is why Jubilee doesn't build therapy around a label. We look at what's changed, how it's affecting everyday life and what the person wants to accomplish.

Same diagnosis. Different person. Different therapy.

Talk with your doctor about whether a referral to Jubilee Speech Therapy may be appropriate.

The same diagnosis can affect two people very differently.

Jubilee Speech Therapy begins by identifying what has changed, how it affects everyday life, and what the patient wants to accomplish. And only then do we build therapy around the person, not just the diagnosis.

They're speaking clearly. So why does talking with them suddenly feel harder?

That can be a sign of a cognitive-communication problem — when changes in attention, memory, organization or thinking start making everyday communication harder. Maybe they lose track of what you were talking about. Maybe they start telling a story and have trouble getting the pieces in the right order. Maybe they get overwhelmed when several people are talking at once. Or they miss a joke, take something literally, or seem unsure how to respond.

And here's what can make these changes easy to miss: Their speech may sound perfectly clear.

Cognitive-communication difficulties can happen after a stroke, brain injury, neurological condition or other medical change. Sometimes the first clues show up not in the person's speech, but in the way they handle everyday conversations.

So if someone you know just doesn't seem to follow, organize or take part in conversations the way they used to, it's worth paying attention. Talk with their doctor and ask whether a referral for adult speech therapy with Jubilee Speech Therapy may be appropriate.

Sometimes the first sign is in a single sound. An “S” that suddenly won’t come out correctly. Words that begin running together. Speech that sounds thicker, slower, or more slurred than usual. These changes can happen when the muscles and movements needed for speech aren’t working together normally.

If you notice a new change in your own speech — or hear it in someone you love — pay attention to it.

Sudden speech changes should not be ignored. If the problem persists, talk with your doctor and ask for a referral to Jubilee Speech Therapy. We're here to help.

“Mom keeps forgetting things. Why would we call a speech therapist?”

Because speech therapy is about much more than speech.

After a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological change, problems with memory, attention, and organization can affect everyday communication and independence. An adult speech-language pathologist can help identify these cognitive-communication changes and teach practical strategies to manage them.

If you've noticed changes in someone you love, talk with their healthcare provider about whether an evaluation may help.

Contact your doctor and have get a referral. We're here to help.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can say is…nothing.

If someone you love is struggling to find a word after a stroke or because of aphasia, resist the urge to finish the sentence for them. Give them a few extra seconds. Then, if they still need help, simply ask:

“Would you like some help?”

That small question lets them stay in control of the conversation.

Jubilee Speech Therapy helps adults and families throughout Baldwin County communicate with more confidence. Ask your doctor for a referral if you feel that you or a loved one needs assistance.

🇺🇸 Enjoy the long weekend — and don’t forget to listen to your body.

Labor Day Weekend is a great time for cookouts, family gatherings, travel, and a little extra time with the people you love. But if you’re recovering from a stroke, illness, injury, or another medical event, remember: your body may still be working harder than it used to.

Pay attention to what it’s telling you.

If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, short of breath, having more difficulty communicating, or noticing changes with swallowing, don’t simply push through because everyone else is still going. Take a break. Slow things down. Ask for help. Give yourself permission to enjoy the weekend at your own pace.

Recovery is a journey, and being aware of how your body is responding is an important part of moving forward safely.

From all of us at Jubilee Speech Therapy, have a happy, relaxing, and safe Labor Day Weekend. ❤️🤍💙
