Imagine being too sick to travel… but having to anyway.

People don’t realize how MANY dysautonomia patients are forced to become long distance patients just to get proper medical care.

Some of us are driving 2, 4, 6+ hours just to see doctors who actually understand how complex these conditions can be and how often they overlap with things like EDS, MCAS, autoimmune issues, GI problems, neuropathy, and more.

And the cruel part is that long car rides can flare symptoms for a lot of us. The sitting upright for hours, the heat and bright lights, the adrenaline, the motion, the exhaustion afterward, the dehydration, the stress on the body… all of that can make these trips incredibly hard physically.

Then you add in the gas money, hotel costs, missed work, childcare, food, copays, and the fact that many chronically ill patients are already struggling financially because these conditions can make daily functioning hard enough as it is.

For me, I’m thankful to see one of the top dysautonomia specialists in the country, but it still takes me a 5 hour round trip just to get there. And honestly, it shouldn’t be this hard to find knowledgeable care.

People with autonomic disorders deserve access to doctors who understand these conditions without having to physically and financially run themselves into the ground just to be taken seriously.

People don’t realize your autonomic nervous system controls THIS much.

Not just heart rate.

We’re talking about the system that helps regulate your:

• blood pressure
• circulation
• sweating
• body temperature
• goosebumps
• pupil size
• light sensitivity
• tear production
• saliva production
• thirst/hunger cues
• insulin release/blood sugar regulation
• digestion
• stomach emptying
• nausea reflexes
• swallowing
• bladder function
• bowel function
• breathing patterns
• adrenaline release
• sleep/wake signals
• skin flushing
• tremors and shakiness
• fainting and near fainting responses

So when someone has a disorder affecting the autonomic nervous system, symptoms can show up almost anywhere in the body.

That’s why people with conditions like POTS and other types of dysautonomia are often told their symptoms “don’t make sense” because the symptoms can seem completely unrelated at first.

One person may struggle mostly with dizziness and heart symptoms.
Another may deal with nausea, GI problems, sweating abnormalities, dry eyes, dry mouth, bladder issues, temperature intolerance, adrenaline surges, vision changes, or chronic fatigue.

The autonomic nervous system helps regulate automatic functions happening in your body every second of the day… so when it malfunctions, it can affect way more than most people realize.
