I love to share my experience with weight gain and loss (thank God and you) during menopause. Although, I initially resisted being gluten-free, abstaining from alcohol, and wearing a glucose monitor, I learned that leaning in was the answer, and now I am more likely to lean in than resist.

Oh my goodness, and PROTEIN. I was NOT getting nearly enough protein. I also learned to lift heavy. I thought I was, but I was just choosing heavy weights - not lifting to failure.

With the right support and strategies, you can lose weight in menopause.

šŸ‘ŸI miss the gym some days and often miss my protein macro goal. Yet, I know that in TRYING to hit my protein macro of 140 grams, I guarantee I am getting more protein then if I was ignoring the amount of protein I consume.

šŸ“øOoof, I’ve been sitting on these photos for a while. I took the ones from 2023 for b/c I was having her evaluate my posture to deal with IT Band pain and my ā€œduck footedness.ā€ It was only b/c she needed these photos to do the evaluation that I took them. Trust me, there is no way I wanted to record what I looked like in a sports bra in July of 2023.

The second set, I took yesterday. I tried to make them as comparable as possible… During menopause, in a matter of months, I put on a tremendous amount of weight - seemingly overnight.

Ā I felt defeated, I could not lose weight and nothing fit. It took me a minimum of 20 minutes to figure out what I was gonna wear every day because I had to try things on.

Today, I feel so free because all my clothes fit and I have tons of energy. I’ve learned so much about what foods work for me - and what doesn’t.

Here’s what I did:

1. I found a hormone literate nutritionist (xo )
2. I interviewed a number of gynecologists until I found one that was an expert about hormone replacement therapy. (DM me if you want the name of mine)
3. I was really dedicated to my nutrition plan and to lifting weights with progressive overload at least three times a week. (TY Equinox Darien and Southport)

I hear there’s a to 2016 going on and I’m all in to show the year that really marked perimenopausal changes for me such as:

🚨Much heavier periods (think crime scene)
🚨Heightened anxiety (driving over bridges 😱)
🚨Extended PMS (the unwanted dance remix version)
🚨Sugar crashes that made me so tired late afternoon.
🚨Sweating episodes I attributed to working out… I now know they were hot flashes.
🚨The inability to say the right word. I remember a co-worker consistently filling in ā€œmy blanksā€ during meetings.

😊I have so much more energy today with my food dialed in, understanding ways to mitigate sugar crashes and using HRT. That 2016 me could have REALLY used some progesterone to smooth out the chaotic estrogen, eliminate the heavy periods, brain fog and lighten the anxiety.
