Progress Over Perfection

Humility reminds us that we don't have to be perfect to make progress.

Biology: Small, consistent improvements in nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management can have a significant impact on long-term heart health.

Behavior: Instead of giving up after a setback, humble people learn from it and keep moving forward.

Belief: Every step forward counts.

Heart Health Reflection: What small win can you celebrate today?

I have been striving to keep up with my flower gardens - weeding! I had mulch dropped off several weeks ago-
I had 2 people say to me: Are you gonna use that mulch? My heart flutters and panicked- for a moment- thoughts and emotions whirled in my mind- all the excuses and reasons- then I paused- there is no timeframe, there is no rush. It will get done! I am progressing- the weeds are under control- the mound of mulch is not going anywhere- it will get done!
That was a small win to process my long list of things to get done and allow for time and progress.

Letting Go of Being Right

Sometimes the greatest barrier to growth is our need to be right.

Biology: Emotional stress often increases when we cling to control. Learning to release that need can help create greater emotional balance.

Behavior: Humility allows us to listen before responding and understand before judging.

Belief: Relationships matter more than winning arguments.

Heart Health Reflection: Where might listening serve you better than proving a point?

My grandmother and my mother were examples in my life to listen first and understand as I was growing up!
I see their influence in my life daily- I am grateful to stop and listen.

Humility Helps Us Ask for Help

Many people struggle alone because they believe asking for help is a sign of weakness.

Biology: Chronic stress places a burden on the heart and body. Support from others can reduce feelings of isolation and help us better manage stress.

Behavior: Humility gives us permission to reach out, ask questions, and accept support.

Belief: We were never meant to do everything alone.

Heart Health Reflection: Who could you reach out to this week for encouragement or accountability?

We had an opportunity to drop off electronics and appliances in our community-
I have this old-- Old-- OLD commuter.
I needed to get the hard drive off because it had all my personal information- So I reached out to my son who walked me through how to retrieve the hard drive. Face timing helped tremendously!

He guided me until I found what I was looking for and took off- I remember him saying- Do you have any other questions? I'm like: Nope! found it! Got it in my hand! Thank you so much!

The Strength of Being Teachable

One of the strongest character traits is the willingness to be taught.

Biology: Research continues to show that healthy habits—not perfection—have the greatest impact on heart health. Being teachable allows us to adopt new behaviors that support our well-being.

Behavior: A teachable person says, "I didn't know that," instead of becoming defensive.

Belief: Wisdom grows when curiosity is greater than pride.

Heart Health Reflection: What healthy habit have you learned in the last year that improved your life?

Recently, I made bread with the loaf pan from my Aunt Carolyn-
I smiled as I tested the yeast and gathered the ingredients- I placed everything into the mixer- My aunt taught me by hand- with a big bread bowl flour everywhere- using our hands to work the dough. I use both- the mixer and my hands.
I asked many questions when she was teaching me- I still ask many questions. Sometimes it sounds like WHY? yet, I am realizing I am genuinely curious.
I have shifted from Why? to What can I learn? How can I grow?

My husband loved the bread- makes a perfect piece of toast!

Humbled

Humility Begins with Listening

Humility isn't thinking less of yourself—it's being willing to learn.

Biology: When we believe we already know everything, we may ignore signals from our body. Humility allows us to pay attention to symptoms, stress levels, fatigue, and changes in our health before they become bigger problems.

Behavior: Humble people ask questions. They seek guidance, listen to feedback, and remain open to new information.

Belief: Growth happens when we recognize there is always more to learn.

Heart Health Reflection: What is your body trying to tell you today that you've been too busy to hear?

I was humbled, deeply humbled as I pulled off the winter cover and plastic from the Garden - I call It God's garden- I counted 21 tomatoes growing- seeded from last year.
The deep realization I do nothing to cause a seed to grow- the seed that lies in the dark doing its work without anyone seeing it-
I do know that I am the Sower - cultivating and preparing but to actually grow the seed- nothing from me-
I am so blessed- I am grateful- I am humbled.

Tonight, consider this:

What if the way creation quietly holds together… is teaching us how to live?

The forest does not rush.
It does not compete.
It simply lives in rhythm with what it was designed to be.

Reverence is what happens when we slow down enough to notice that we are part of something far greater than ourselves.

Before sleep, ask:

Where am I moving out of alignment with that rhythm—
and what would it look like to return to awe?

REVERENCE.

Reverence is both awe and holy fear before the Creator.

There are moments when creation itself feels like a doorway into eternity.

Have you ever looked at a forest and felt something eternal staring back at you?

For me, it is the continuity of life woven into every part of it.

A single tree is never truly alone.

Its roots form unseen networks beneath the soil—intertwining with other trees, sharing resources, sustaining life in ways we are only beginning to understand. Its leaves breathe in what we exhale and release what we need to live. Generations of trees rise, fall, and return to the earth, yet the forest continues.

It does not rush.
It does not strive.
It simply abides in the rhythm it was created for.

And in that rhythm, I glimpse something of Eternity.

Biology.
Life is intricately connected—systems within systems, designed with intelligence and interdependence that point beyond randomness.

Behavior.
When we slow down enough to observe creation, something in us begins to soften. We stop grasping and start receiving. We begin to live with more awareness, more humility, more care.

Belief.
Reverence is what happens when we realize we are not the center of creation. It is the recognition that there is a Creator who holds both the forest and our lives in His sustaining hand.

Maybe reverence is not just awe in a moment…
but a posture of life.

A way of walking gently through a world that is far more alive, connected, and sacred than we often remember.

With our anniversary a few days ago, these photos are a perfect example - we were married under a tree in our backyard- beautiful bright green leaves. I'm told it is a locust tree.
