Sweet William's Way with Krabbe

William is an 12 year old with early infantile Krabbe Leukodystrophy. He had a stem cell transplant at 5 months old to slow the progression of the disease.

William is the son of Robert and Abbey (Glasgow) Branch. He was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy at the age of 5 months old. Krabbe is a tragic, progressive terminal genetic disorder. The only treatment at this time is a stem cell transplant that needs to be caught at birth, but most do not know until its too late for treatment. Good morning from the WB Crew!

I haven't posted much lately as we have had A LOT going on.

Sadly, August 1, William lost one of his biggest cheerleaders: my mother, his "Gogo." My mom had been battling health issues for years but always showed up for William and her grandchildren and loved them so so much. William was there to say goodbye just moments after she passed at the Hospice House, and he asked for her several days following and still does occasionally. We all attended her service and William loved being with all of his (very big) extended family. It is a tragic loss for our family and for William. We are so thankful for the love Gogo showed William and that will continue to live on forever in our hearts. She passed just shy of her and my father's 55th wedding anniversary. 🥹

👩‍🏫Life continues to move forward: William just started up his second week of 7th grade. Last week went very well! He has THE BEST support team at his school. Sounds like he really took off with his math goals, has been driving his chair, standing every day, and doing all the 5,000 other things his team can make happen in an 8 hour school day. We are so very very blessed for his team at Davenport Public Schools!

👩‍⚕️William's health has remained stable. He's growing up so fast! He's smart, kind, and so funny. He has tolerated his bone health infusions (Zometa) well, blood work is all stable, he is fully cleared to stand after his femur fracture that happened last spring, and is staying busy now with Challenger Baseball starting back up, school full time every day!

🏡We are also looking into moving to a bigger home in the area, as William's footprint (equipment) keeps getting bigger and bulkier! Also, having his🐾Great Dane/Mastiff June in the mix really makes spaces tight. :) So, that will be another adventure for the Branch Family that is TBD!

He also plays Sunday, September 20, at Modern Woodman Park for the Great River Challenge.⚾

Haven't posted much lately, but wanted to let all know William is doing well, and here he is part of the Bacon Buddies at the Mississippi Valley Fair today! He got to show a pig with his 4H mentors. 🐷 They all did a great job!

12 more sleeps with this big soft cast. Then new X-rays, and hopefully can begin PROM (passive range of motion).

He also gets another Zometa infusion the day he gets his new X-rays. This will be his third infusion and we are hopeful his bone health will continue to improve. Every little bit helps.

Such a gorgeous day in Iowa today. ☀️

Thankful for my family and our followers today (and every day!). ❤️

We went bowling, played baseball and ended it with a trip to see family. ☺️

Tuesday, he gets his cast removed for new X-rays. Hopefully he can keep it off, and is healing well! Or, he may need another replaced. TBD!

🥳 William had a wonderful birthday weekend!

First, thank you to all that have sent him cards and gifts! We have one from almost every single state and that's pretty amazing! He will be sending everyone a little something in return... at some point ☺️.

🏥 We started the weekend off with visiting his Ortho surgeon for a healing check-in. Everything is healing as expected and he will have his cast removed in 2.5 weeks with new X-rays, then a reassessment.

That night, he attended Unified Bowling 🎳 where we saw a lot of familiar friendly faces, then Challenger Baseball ⚾ the next morning where he again had a group of fans 🥹🌟👏🏽, then a small birthday party at our home 🏡, and finally opening up all of the cards, presents and packages and blowing out candles on his Monster Truck birthday cake. 🎉

We even had a friend "Card My Yard" (pic below) and got lots of Happy Birthdays from our amazing neighbors! 😄

🏫 He starts summer school tomorrow just a few hours a day, and we will continue trying to have some relaxing fun time doing some other things he loves to do. 🌞

Thank you for making his weekend so special, despite being in a big fat uncomfortable cast!! 💪🏽

I'm pretty emotional at every birthday and holiday for that matter. William makes things better and we are so blessed to be his parents. ☺️

He is turning 12! 🥳

🏥 Last week, William's pediatric orthopedic surgeon manipulated his leg in clinic and placed a hard cast. We go back end of this week to see how he is healing.

William chose the cast color. Go Cubs, Go! 💙 He's so tough...

🥹 Proud parent moment. He did well at his school recognition assembly earning of 1st honors, then we headed straight out the door for physical and occupational therapy (enter his disgruntled look...its hard work!)

He is one of the most inspirational people I've ever met.

Nine more sleeps and we have a 7th grader.

Promise we have fun sometimes 😆. Challenger Baseball game tomorrow morning! Hooray for 3-day weekends and summer time!!! 🌞
