“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” Psalm 127:3
This weekend we welcomed Augustine David into our family and the Momma and Me family. What a privilege to be able to witness the birth of our 8th grandchild and to be able to be a doula for a doula! Little man, you are a gift from God and the perfect addition to our family. You are loved beyond measure.

A lot of women think they have a low pain tolerance until they give birth in an environment where they actually feel safe.

Read that again.

Because what many women call “I can’t handle pain” is often:
• fear
• tension
• lack of support
• being dismissed
• feeling out of control
• bright lights and constant interruptions
• people making them panic during contractions

Birth is physical, yes.
But it is also deeply mental and emotional.

A supported woman labors differently than a terrified woman.
And yet so many women go into labor more prepared for newborn photos than for understanding how fear affects the body.

When we’re afraid, the body tightens.
Breathing changes.
Stress hormones rise.
Pain intensifies.
That’s not weakness.
That’s physiology.

I’ve watched women who swore they “could never do unmedicated birth” labor calmly once they felt educated, supported, and safe.

And I’ve watched strong, confident women completely unravel after being ignored, pressured, or made fearful.

This is why support matters.
This is why environment matters.
This is why the way women are spoken to during labor matters.

Because birth is not simply about “how high your pain tolerance is.”

It’s about whether a woman feels safe enough to surrender to the process instead of fighting against fear the entire time.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

April is cesarean awareness month. Giving birth via a c-section is not easy! As doulas, we understand the sacrifice parents make when they must have a surgical birth to safely bring their babies earthside.

Why awareness? Because it is important people understand how transformative birth is, including c-section birth.

All birth has the potential to be positive and empowering, including c-section birth. This is why prenatal support and birth doula support are still important for c-section parents.

One of our instructors, is supporting a scheduled c-section client today.

This is 100% true!

This is 100% true!

What your doula wished you knew...

I’d tell you it’s beautiful.

I’d tell you it’s sacred.
I’d tell you it’s empowering.
I’d tell you it’s candlelight and whispered affirmations and women discovering their strength.

And all of that is true.

But here’s the part I we don't say enough:

Your doula cares about your birth more than you know.

She cares about how you are spoken to.
She cares about who touches you and when.
She cares about the tone in the room.
She cares about the pause before a decision.
She cares about your partner not feeling lost.
She cares about your “no” being heard the first time.
She cares about your dignity.

She is watching everything.

She notices when your shoulders tense before you say you’re scared.
She notices when the room gets loud.
She notices when you need water, or quiet, or reassurance, or space.

Because birth is not just about how your baby arrives.
It’s about how you arrive.

You deserve to look back and remember strength.
You deserve to remember being respected.
You deserve to remember feeling supported, not managed.

A doula is not there to control your birth.
She is there to protect your experience.

And long after the lights are turned off and the room is quiet,
she will still be thinking about you.

Wondering if you’re resting.
Hoping you feel proud.
Hoping you feel seen.

That’s the part we don’t put in the brochure.

We don’t just show up for your contractions.
We show up for you.
