There are many mistruths treated as facts when it comes to Pride Month, LGBTQ+ people, and the issues they face. We want to emphasize that Pride Month is a vital, revolutionary act of self-love, survival, and political protest. There is healing in visibility, especially when there are concerted efforts to erase and silence q***r people. Join the celebration, but also find ways to act in solidarity with q***r people in your life, your neighbors, and your community.

A core feature of therapy is learning methods for addressing distress and emotion dysregulation by down-regulating in healthy, adaptive ways. Whether the distress is acute or chronic, having an activated nervous system and feeling emotionally flooded in perpetuity, without any way of calming yourself down, is disruptive and further distressing. Don’t let the age of the video discourage you. These skills, known as TIPP, are evidence-based, and the author of the video does a wonderful job explaining and demonstrating them. Use these skills on your own, and we encourage you to bring them up with your therapist if you are not already working on them in therapy. These are great skills to have on hand and practice regularly. Remember: practice, practice, practice. Coping skills are far less useful if they are unfamiliar, and familiarity develops through repetition and practice.

We recently posted a blog exploring the topic of microaggressions, and we wanted to share another resource to expand everyone's understanding of microaggressions and their impact, which is far more widespread than most people realize. People often assume that microaggressions only affect historically marginalized populations and that harm only occurs outside the home, but this article sheds light on why that assumption is false. Many people also experience microaggressions and similar behaviors within their own homes and in relationships with family and friends.

Watching someone you love subjected to racial slights and biased assumptions can make you feel helpless, outraged, and ashamed—especially when the source is your own family.
