We recently received an email from a patient THANKING us for their bike fitting, and we wanted to share it with you! 🚴‍♂️😊

“I wanted to follow up on the results from my bike fitting. I ended up getting in a 27 mile ride on Saturday, and I think it was the most enjoyable ride I’ve had to date. I did a round trip from Veterans Memorial Park in Dayton up to Taylorsville Dam and back. The adjustments really made a big difference. I wanted to keep on riding!”

This is exactly why we offer our Orthopedic Bike Fitting service. 🚴‍♀️🔧

Our goal is to help cyclists ride more comfortably, efficiently, and confidently so they can spend more time doing what they love: riding their bikes! ❤️

Thank you to our patient for allowing us to share this! 🙌

Bike Sizing or Bike Fitting?

If you are a recreational or avid cyclist, a bike shop will most likely size your bicycle when you first buy it. They size your bike based on your height, your inseam length, and the specific type of bike you ride. If your bike is not sized correctly, your rides will feel awkward and even unsafe.

Bike fitting is much more involved than bike sizing. A professional fit analyzes your body mechanics and movement science. It is the fine-tuning of every single detail. A fitter adjusts everything from the tilt of your seat to the exact position of your shoe cleats. They even adjust your handlebars so you do not get numbness or tingling in your hands (ulnar neuropathy) during long rides.

Most people have a sized bike, but very few have a properly fitted bike. Are you looking to prevent long-term cycling injuries? Give us a call at (937) 419-3431, and let's get your bike fitted today!

This is one of the tools we use during our orthopedic bike fitting service, and it’s not your average $30 torque wrench. Our torque wrench costs more than $100 because precision matters, especially when we're working with expensive carbon fiber components.

Many modern road bikes use carbon fiber, which is lightweight and incredibly strong, but it can also be damaged by improper tightening. Applying too much torque to the wrong bolt can potentially crack or damage a component.

That’s why we use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications for each component. For many adjustments, the recommended torque may be around 6 N·m, but the correct torque varies depending on the specific component. How do we know the correct specifications? Because we have the proper training and certification to work on your bike safely and correctly.

Without the proper tools, it’s easy to overtighten a bolt and potentially damage a component or even your beloved bike simply because you didn’t have the right equipment to make the adjustment safely.

When you bring your bike in for a professional fit, we're not just adjusting your saddle and handlebars. We're making precise changes using the right tools, the right measurements, and the right torque. On top of that, when you add our knowledge of human biomechanics, you get a bike that is fitted specifically to your needs.

Sound interesting? Give us a call at (937) 419-3431 and let’s get your bike fitted properly so you can ride more comfortably and confidently!

Let’s wish our wonderful team member Vince the best of luck as he prepares for his powerlifting competition in October!

Welcome, Vince Carone to the WPO PRO platform. For Vince this invitation means everything.

After spending four straight years ranked in the Top 10 of the 198 class, injuries, surgeries, and life pulled him away from competition for nearly six years. Within his first year back, he fought his way back into the Top 10, and earned his spot at WPO Pro.

To Vince, WPO Pro is the pinnacle of multi-ply powerlifting. “It’s where all the legendary stories happened. It’s an honor to compete on the same platform as the athletes who built this sport.”

The Dayton, Ohio native still loves to deadlift, still eats Little Debbies on meet day, and is proof that sometimes the comeback means more than the climb.

On Monday, we had a new patient who looked like Matthew McConaughey, who also happens to be my celebrity crush. So I was excited… until he told me he had been suffering from hip pain for the past 30 years and had seen 86 different providers with no good results.

That means I’m the 87th provider he’s seeing, and the chances of me helping him feel better are essentially 1 in 87.

So I proceeded with treatment, and toward the end of the session, he told me he liked my approach and that it felt different from what he had experienced before. I’ll take that as a win. Despite having seen 86 providers before me, I was able to offer something “different.”

And the best part? He’s coming back for more physical therapy.

If you’ve been dealing with a chronic joint problem and want to try something different, reach out to us. We’d be happy to help.

-Jack

“Does Cracking Your Knuckles Cause Arthritis?”

Many patients have asked me this question: “I crack my knuckles all the time, is that bad?” The answer is no. This is based on Dr. Donald L. Unger’s self-experiment. He cracked the knuckles on one hand every day for about 50 years and never cracked the other hand. After decades, he found no difference in arthritis or joint damage. He even won the Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2009 for this study. He certainly deserves a medal for his persistence! (Seriously who does that?)

I do have a different opinion for people who crack their necks frequently. Maybe we can talk about that next time.
