Kym is a functional medicine practitioner, certified hormone restoration specialist, and FMPhA's Wisconsin leader. I wanted to bring you her story because I think it's the clearest example we've had yet of what's actually possible on the other side of this work.

Here's what I want you to take from Kym's story: functional medicine is not just a clinical toolkit. It's a gateway. Kym didn't just heal her own body. She built a practice that gave her the time and location freedom to compete in half Ironman triathlons around the world, something she could not have imagined during the years she spent in and out of surgery.

When a doctor tells you there are only two options left, hear this: that's true within their toolbox. But it doesn’t have to be your truth.

My guest Dr. Kym Klimek was told after her second endometriosis surgery that her only paths were another surgery, or getting pregnant. She didn't believe that was the end. You can't patent a whole plant but you can patent the one compound you pulled out of it.

My guest Marina Buksov says that's basically why pharmacy looks the way it does today. Isolate a compound, and you can package it, market it, control it. That's not science, it's a business model.

Herbalism stayed with the whole plant instead, and the synergy of many compounds working together.
