First Light Midwifery Welcome to First Light Midwifery! I'm Betsy Robinett, a midwife of 19 years and counting. I was born and grew up in Mexico. The Lord is my guiding light.

As a midwife since 2005, I combine my knowledge and expertise with a deep passion for supporting mothers and babies on their birthing journey. In Spanish, the phrase for "giving birth" is "dar a luz". This literally means "to give to the light". Birth is the first moment a baby sees the bight light that is part of life. As a Christian, I also believe that God "wraps Himself in light" and that Jesus said, to his disciples, "You are the light of the world". Combining the two thoughts, I want the first light that each of my babies sees to be the light of Jesus through my heart and my hands, my voice and my touch. Compassion and commitment to well-being are the heart of my practice. My faith motivates me to provide compassionate care that honors the miracles of birth. I'm proud to serve this 15-county area of rural Texas and empower women to experience a positive and nurturing birth.

"And so I will sing of your strength, in the morning acclaim your faithful love; you have been a stronghold for me, a refuge when I was in trouble. My strength, I will make music for you, for my stronghold is God, the God who loves me faithfully." Psalm 59:16,17 I feel this in every fiber of my being this morning. He has been a stronghold for me, a refuge, God, the one who loves me faithfully.

Three years ago I agreed to take on a student, Jessica Eudy . I didn't want to. I knew it would be hard. And I hadn't had a good history (with one exception) with students in my past.

It HAS been hard, this journey of teaching and pouring myself into someone else. But I have also been poured into by her. She has been a gift to me of faithfulness, faith, and just sheer hard work. We are ending this teacher-student relationship, but we are beginning a new season, of being peers and helpers to each other.

I am so thankful for the gift of her kindness, her passion for God, her fierce loyalty, the sheer force of her personality. I didn't know I needed her in my life, but I did!

Here's to many more years and history together, Jessica Eudy! So glad you didn't take no for an answer! 😂

Today is a historic day! I just did an intake for a client that I delivered as a baby. Very thankful to live to see this day and continue serving, loving and praying!
