This is a place to come to have your story heard, not just your symptoms, but the history and the path that brought you to this current state of being... together we will work to find the answers to bring you to a state of wellness through nutrition, exercise, meditation, and supplements. Why integrative Me

dicine? I have found that through my years of practicing medicine that allopathic or Western medicine leaves both the patient and the physician searching for more. Meeting patients for their annual visits gives me a glimpse into their lives, journeys, joys and struggles. It is with great awe that I am inspired by their stories of courage and compassion to create a beautiful life for their family and themselves in the midst of a turbulent world. The time allotted to such appointments does not allow for an in depth evaluation of the state of wellness of the patient and the ability journey into complete health. Wellness is much more than what western medicine believes it to be. It is a mental, spiritual and physical state of health that may be achieved by correcting imbalances of nutrient deficiencies and toxin exposures, as well as beginning a new exercise program, regardless of its intensity. Movement is magic and it contributes to your physical and emotional well being. Integrative Medicine is a whole systems approach of treating the patient through mind, body, and spirit. When all three are healthy, wellness is achieved. For this reason, I decided to become trained in Integrative Medicine and Nutrition. I received my diploma in February 2016 from The University of Arizona and was fortunate enough to study with Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Tieraona Low Dog, and Dr. Veronica Maizes. Their instruction has provided me with a foundation to provide the best care to my patients in a compassionate, caring environment. Functional Medicine is a system of evaluating a patient using a systems-oriented approach. This is a shift from disease centered, to patient centered approach to patient care that involves approaching disease at the cellular level and correcting nutritional deficiencies to promote the optimal vitality and health of the individual. Functional Medicine takes into account the unique genetic make up of the individual and the way this allows them to interact differently with their environment and even with different medications. Through Nutrition testing, Hormone testing, and Stool testing, with specific genomic add ons, the physician is able to determine the best course of action to provide the very best health of the patient. While Functional Medicine Lab testing is not often covered by insurance, traditional medical laboratories may also provide some insight into underlying root causes of chronic medical concerns. I offer Nutritional, Hormonal, and GI Effects testing through Genova, Mold Toxicity testing and others through Great Plains Laboratories. Supplements, Nutritional Foods and Detox Regimens are available through Metagenics, Orthomolecular Products, Gaia Herbs. In wellness and with many blessings,

You can help stop global warming with the coffee you drink each day. Making a change in what you purchase can impact climate change by sending a message to big corporate farmers that we as consumers are not on board with farming practices that destroy rainforests and alter biodiversity in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Check your products for the regenerative farming seal and shop at local regenerative farms. You can learn about this type of farming by watching a fantastic documentary, and you can check a list of regenerative farmed products at a website called “Kiss the Ground”. By the way, they are hiring if you are looking for a wonderful company to work for with an ethical focus and purpose.

She held the biopsy gun right at the lesion. Her tech said, "Dr. Tiger, you're right there." She said okay. Then she waited for her hands to come back.

Robin Tiger, MD is a radiologist and physician coach.

What her tech did not know was that the numbness in her hands had been showing up for months, along with migraines, vertigo, tinnitus, reflux, racing thoughts that had no name in any chart. Every specialist gave her a different pill for a different symptom. The labs were negative. The imaging was negative. She kept going to work and reading films and doing biopsies and going home to her kids and getting up the next day and doing it again.

Her father had died when she was seven years old. By the time Robin was 58, she had lived twice as long as he ever had.

The turning point was not a medication. It was the night she looked at her own kids and thought, I do not want this for you. What happened to me cannot happen to you.

She started outside the box of what she had been taught in medical school. Up to 90 percent of the symptoms she was carrying, the literature now says, are downstream of chronic stress. So she learned how to breathe in ways that bring the nervous system back into balance. She rebuilt her plate around plants. She moved her body for the parts of her brain that regulate mood, not just for cardio numbers. She protected sleep like medicine. She rebuilt the connections with the people in her life that the work had quietly eroded.

The paresthesias went away. The migraines went away. The racing thoughts went away.

Robin put it this way:

"Don't die with your dreams inside of you."

May is osteoporosis prevention month. This is silent.. different than arthritis of osteoarthritis- this is diagnoses with a bone density test. Testing will determine if you have bone thinning or osteopenia or serious bone loss or osteoporosis. 1 in 4 women die of a hip fracture . Those that do not require long term care facilities . Focusing on strength balance and flexibility may help prevent a fall and fracture. Having your first bone density test by age 60 is important.
This is done through the Gynegology office

Bone Mineral Density Testing

Bone density Testing - DEXA scan - used to diagnose decreased bone mineral density and move toward treatment to prevent fracture.
Osteopenia - BMD -1.0 to - 2.5
Osteoporosis - BMD less than - 2.5

Treatment Options -
Weight Bearing Exercise
Calcium from diet - 1500 mg / day (add supplements if needed)
Vitamin D 4000 - 5000 IU/ day
Lifestyle changes - smoking cessation, limit alcohol
Have Vitamin D checked and Maintain at level of 50 - 70
Bisphosponates - Fosamax, Actonel- First line of therapy for osteopenia - Stop bone resorption
SERM - Evistam- acts selectively on the estrogen recoptor
Prolia (denosumab) - injection every 6 months - inhibits Rank Ligand ( that breaks down bone)
Forteo (teriparatide) - synthetic parathyroid hormone - builds new bone - daily self injection for 2 years
Evenity (romosozumab) - builds new bone and reduces bone breakdown. 2 monthly injections for 1 year.
While many options are available to treat bone loss, seeing an Endocrinologist that specializes in BMD or osteoporosis will help you make your decision regarding your best option for treatment.

Eating healthy is not about depriving yourself of food, but rather look at it as an abundance of colors, textures, and flavors not available in packaged and processed foods. When we focus more on adding 3 - 6 servings of fruits and vegetables daily we don’t feel deprived or hungry. The added fiber helps with appetite suppression and the various colors or phytonutrients keep our brain healthy .

The use of Metformin in Personalized Medicine for Longevity and Cancer Prevention ~ its not just for diabetes.
Human studies are currently examining the effect of metformin (a medication derived from Goat’s Rue or Galega officionalis) on antiaging and cancer prevention. Many studies have previously shown that patients with diabetes using this medication live longer and studies in other species demonstrate longevity. This effect is likely due to epigenetic canges in the SIRT 1 gene and the microbiome which incidently alters the action on the GLP1 receptor to promote weight loss. Not all individuals respond to metformin and part of the research will be to evaluate what make individuals different in their response and lack there of. If your soctor recommends metformin , many potential benefits exist orher than glucose control and remember its early herbal origin. This help many patients feel better about its use.

Lithium Orotate in doses of 3-5 mg daily may help protect from dementia. Dr James Greeenblatt, a psychiatrist, has long been an advocate of Lithium for better brain health including prevention of anxiety, depression, ADD, and OCD. Lithium Orotate is a trace mineral found in the soil and our water supply that when is sparse has been shown to be associated with more aggressive crimes, murders and suicides. While studies are ongoing, this is a trace mineral much different than lithium carbonate used in bipolar disorder.
