Emergency Nurse Practitioners recognize and value the critical role forensic nurses play not only in emergency care, but in advocacy, patient outcomes, and the broader response to violence and trauma.

The American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP) is opening its EmergNP 2026: The Rhythm of Readiness for Emergency Care conference to forensic nurses across all practice settings—and this moment matters.

In a time of ongoing challenges and uncertainty, this is more than a conference. It is an opportunity to come together as a community—to learn, share, and connect with others who understand the importance of providing evidence-based, trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual violence.

Let’s show up, support one another, and continue advancing the work.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

This month is a reminder that awareness is not passive—it calls us to act, to listen, and to support survivors with compassion, respect, and evidence-based care.

Sexual violence affects individuals, families, and communities across every setting. Survivors deserve access to timely, trauma-informed, and equitable care, as well as systems that prioritize dignity, safety, and justice.

As healthcare professionals, advocates, and community members, we each have a role:
• Believe survivors
• Promote trauma-informed practices
• Advocate for access to forensic and healthcare services
• Commit to ongoing education and accountability

Together, we can strengthen systems of care, reduce stigma, and ensure survivors are met with the expertise and humanity they deserve.
