🔥 Hyperthyroidism: When Your Thyroid Is in Overdrive 🔥

Your thyroid may be small, but it plays a HUGE role in your body’s metabolism, energy, heart rate, and temperature regulation.

When the thyroid becomes overactive (hyperthyroidism), it can cause a variety of symptoms that are often mistaken for stress, anxiety, or simply being “busy.”

⚠️ Common Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism:

✅ Unexplained weight loss
✅ Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
✅ Anxiety, nervousness, or irritability
✅ Excessive sweating
✅ Heat intolerance (always feeling hot)
✅ Tremors or shaky hands
✅ Difficulty sleeping
✅ Increased appetite
✅ Frequent bowel movements
✅ Hair thinning or hair loss
✅ Fatigue and muscle weakness
✅ Irregular menstrual cycles

👀 Some people may also develop:
• Bulging eyes
• Eye irritation or dryness
• Enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter)

💡 Left untreated, hyperthyroidism can increase the risk of heart rhythm abnormalities, osteoporosis, and other serious health complications.

🩺 The good news? A simple blood test can help evaluate your thyroid function.

If you’ve been told “it’s just anxiety” but you’re experiencing several of these symptoms, it may be worth discussing thyroid testing with your healthcare provider.

✨ Listen to your body. Symptoms are your body’s way of asking for attention.

🚨 UTI IN THE ELDERLY: IT’S NOT ALWAYS JUST BURNING WITH URINATION 🚨

Many people think a urinary tract infection (UTI) always causes burning, urgency, and frequency. In older adults, however, the signs can look very different.

👵🏽 Symptoms of a UTI in Older Adults:

🧠 Sudden confusion or changes in mental status
😴 Increased sleepiness or lethargy
🚶🏽‍♀️ Increased falls or difficulty walking
🥴 Dizziness
🍽️ Loss of appetite
🤒 Fever or chills

💡 Important Note: Not every episode of confusion in an elderly person is a UTI. Dehydration, medication side effects, infections, metabolic abnormalities, and other medical conditions can cause similar symptoms. Proper evaluation is important.

💧 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Stay well hydrated
✔️ Don’t hold your urine for long periods
✔️ Practice good hygiene
✔️ Manage diabetes and other chronic conditions
✔️ Seek medical attention if symptoms develop

🚑 When to Seek Immediate Medical Care:

* Fever and chills
* Severe weakness
* Persistent vomiting
* New confusion
* Back or flank pain
* Signs of dehydration

UTIs in older adults can progress quickly and, if left untreated, may lead to serious complications including kidney infections and sepsis.

❤️ Early recognition and treatment can make all the difference.

MCAS/CSU Health Tip of the Day:

💧 Sleep. Water. Stress Management.

Sometimes the biggest improvements don’t come from adding another medication—they come from taking care of the basics.

If you have MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) or CSU (Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria), consider these daily habits:

✨ Prioritize 7–9 hours of sleep
✨ Stay hydrated throughout the day
✨ Manage stress levels
✨ Move your body regularly
✨ Eat nutrient-dense foods
✨ Identify and avoid your personal triggers

Did you know many people with MCAS/CSU notice their itching, hives, flushing, and symptoms worsen later in the day, often around 4–5 PM and into the evening? Histamine levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day, which may contribute to increased symptoms at night.

🌙 Evening MCAS/CSU Tips:
✔️ Drink water before symptoms start
✔️ Avoid known trigger foods at dinner
✔️ Keep stress low in the evening
✔️ Follow your treatment plan
✔️ Create a calming bedtime routine
✔️ Aim for an earlier bedtime

As both a provider and a patient, one thing I’ve learned is that a few nights of poor sleep can trigger a flare just as quickly as some foods or environmental triggers.

Your body heals while you sleep. Your immune system resets while you sleep. Never underestimate the power of rest.

Remember: Medications are important, but lifestyle habits matter too.

💜 Be gentle with yourself.
💜 Listen to your body.
💜 Rest when needed.
💜 Healing is not linear.

MCAS/CSU is a journey of symptoms that many people can’t see… but for patients living through it, it’s very real.
And sometimes the greatest relief is finally hearing:

“I believe you.” 🤍

Living with conditions like Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria can feel exhausting, isolating, and emotionally draining. One day you may feel “okay,” and the next you’re dealing with itching, hives, flushing, swelling, fatigue, GI symptoms, brain fog, dizziness, or reactions that seem unpredictable.

Many patients spend years being told:
“It’s stress.”
“Your labs are normal.”
“You look fine.”

But symptoms deserve to be investigated — not dismissed.

As both a provider and patient advocate, I want people to know:
✨ Being heard matters.
✨ Being believed matters.
✨ Finding the right Allergy/Immunology specialist matters.

Healing is not always linear, and management often requires a combination of:
• Trigger identification
• Low histamine lifestyle modifications
• Sleep & stress management
• Nutrition & hypernourishment
• Antihistamines and other therapies
• A supportive medical team that listens

You are not “dramatic.”
You are not “crazy.”
Your symptoms deserve compassion and proper evaluation. 🤍

Replying to 🎀

05/22/2026

(Yes that’s my baby laughing at me in the background 😭 make it a sound)

Your body cannot fight inflammation while running on empty.

Your body cannot fight inflammation while running on empty.

When you have autoimmune conditions, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, or Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria your body is working overtime 24/7 — and that means it often needs MORE nourishment, not less.

This is why “hypernourishment” matters:
✨ Adequate protein helps tissue repair
✨ Hydration supports the nervous system & histamine regulation
✨ Vitamins/minerals get depleted faster during chronic inflammation
✨ Under-eating, dehydration, crash dieting, and poor sleep can worsen flares
✨ Stable blood sugar can help reduce stress on the body

Many people with chronic inflammatory conditions accidentally become undernourished because they’re exhausted, nauseated, afraid of reactions, or restricting too many foods.

Your body still needs fuel to heal.

Hypernourishment is not about overeating junk food.
It’s about intentionally supporting the body with:
✔️ Nutrient-dense foods
✔️ Protein
✔️ Electrolytes
✔️ Healthy fats
✔️ Sleep
✔️ Nervous system regulation
✔️ Replenishment after flares

An inflamed body is a body with increased demands.
You cannot pour from an empty cup — and neither can your immune system.

As a Nurse Practitioner let me y’all something respectfully 😂👇🏽

We actually LOVE when patients ask questions. Please ask questions. Please understand your treatment plan. Please advocate for yourself. 👏🏽

But the funniest part of healthcare is when patients ask for help… then negotiate every single recommendation 😭

And my face tells on me every single time when I get the :

“Do I REALLY need the medication?”“Can’t I just Google it first?”“I stopped taking it because I felt better.”“Can’t we just monitor it?”“Do I HAVE to see the specialist?”“Can you just refill it without labs?” 👀

Meanwhile your blood pressure is 190/110 and your A1C is introducing itself to Jesus 😭

Listen… healthcare is a PARTNERSHIP.We can recommend. We can educate. We can guide. But you have to meet us halfway.

The best patients are not “perfect” patients. They’re honest patients:✔️ “I’m scared”✔️ “I can’t afford it”✔️ “The side effects bother me”✔️ “I keep forgetting”✔️ “I’m overwhelmed”

THAT conversation helps us help you ❤️

We don’t expect perfection. We just want progress, honesty, and follow-through.

-Sincerely,

Your friendly neighborhood NP 💉🩺

🚹 LOW TESTOSTERONE IN MEN: More Common Than You Think

Feeling constantly tired, low energy, decreased libido, brain fog, mood changes, loss of muscle mass, weight gain, or erectile dysfunction? Low testosterone may be one possible cause.

Testosterone is an important hormone that helps regulate:
✔ Energy
✔ Mood
✔ Muscle mass
✔ S*x drive
✔ Bone health
✔ Fertility

🩺 COMMON CAUSES OF LOW TESTOSTERONE:
• Obesity
• Poor sleep / sleep apnea
• Chronic stress
• Aging
• Diabetes & chronic illness
• Certain medications (opioids, steroids, etc.)
• Pituitary or testicular disorders
• Excess alcohol or anabolic steroid use

🧪 HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis is NOT based on symptoms alone. Bloodwork is needed, typically:
✔ Morning testosterone levels
✔ Free testosterone
✔ LH & FSH
✔ Sometimes prolactin, thyroid labs, CBC, PSA, and more depending on the patient

🏋 FIRST-LINE TREATMENT:
Lifestyle changes are extremely important and can naturally improve testosterone levels:
✔ Weight loss
✔ Resistance training/exercise
✔ Better sleep
✔ Stress reduction
✔ Healthier diet
✔ Limiting alcohol

💉 SECOND-LINE TREATMENT:
For some men with confirmed low testosterone and persistent symptoms, Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) may be considered under medical supervision. TRT comes with BOTH benefits and risks, so proper evaluation and monitoring are essential.

⚠️ Important: Not every man with fatigue has low testosterone, and not every low testosterone level needs treatment. A proper medical evaluation matters.

If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of low testosterone, speak with a qualified healthcare provider for evaluation and guidance.
