Subscriber sent me this case study: “Oxandrolone induced acute tubular necrosis” and said you say Anavar isn’t directly kidney toxic, what about this?
My breakdown:
30 y/o healthy male - intentional caloric restriction + intense exercise for a month + under the counter oral oxandrolone -> ED with nausea/vomiting -> creatinine peaked at 6.06 -> biopsy showed ATN.
Why I’m not convinced it’s directly nephrotoxic:
• N=1
• Starvation + excessive exercise are confounders alone
• Black market = we don’t know if it WAS Anavar, dose, or impurities (data shows 75%+ of black market orals mislabeled)
• No drug test to confirm what he took
What I actually worry about with Anavar:
HDL cut in half + liver - even though it’s more forgiving than other orals, not completely safe. TUDCA + NAC kept my ALT/AST/GGT normal.
Interesting case, not convincing for direct kidney damage.
