This is an exciting development in sun protection. ☀️ From a functional medicine perspective, I’m always looking beyond “Does it work?” and asking “What is the total impact on the body?”
What makes bemotrizinol particularly interesting is its broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, excellent photostability, and very low systemic absorption. Current safety testing has also been reassuring regarding genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and estrogen/androgen receptor activity—important considerations when we think about long-term daily exposure and hormone health.
I still love mineral sunscreens, especially zinc oxide, but having another effective option with a favorable safety profile is a welcome advancement.
Functional medicine isn’t about fearing every chemical—it’s about looking at exposure, absorption, evidence, and overall risk vs. benefit. And so far, this one looks promising. ☀️🧴
