Giving choices is a simple way to build independence while reducing power struggles. When kids feel a sense of control, they’re more likely to cooperate and engage.

Try this:
• Offer 2 clear, appropriate options (both you’re okay with)
• Keep it simple and concrete (“red shirt or blue shirt?”)
• Follow through—once they choose, stick with it
• Use choices proactively (meals, play, routines)
• Limit open-ended questions during challenging moments

Small choices build big skills—confidence, communication, and decision-making.
