Keeping you and your family safe with this important reminder from Caroline County Government

We're excited to introduce You Otter Buckle Up, a child passenger safety initiative created by local organizations committed to keeping Caroline County's children safe.

The inspiration for this campaign came from a difficult reality. In January 2025, within a single week, several children in northern Caroline County were injured in motor vehicle accidents because they were either unrestrained or improperly restrained. Local EMS providers, emergency department staff, and healthcare professionals witnessed injuries that may have been prevented with proper car seat use.

With financial support from the Caroline County Health Department Maryland and The Caroline Foundation, partners including Caroline County Recreation and Parks, Choptank Community Health System, Caroline County Department of Emergency Services, Caroline County Department of Social Services , Greensboro ES Judy Center Early Learning Hub, Caroline County Public Schools, local fire department volunteers, and many others came together around one simple goal: helping more children get home safely.

Soon, you'll begin seeing our otter friend at schools, parks, athletic fields, healthcare offices, and community spaces throughout the county. We hope these friendly reminders encourage families to take a few extra moments to make sure every child is buckled safely, every ride.

So please enjoy our otter, share the message, and help us spread the word. By working together as a community, we can help ensure more children arrive home safely after every ride.

This warmer weather means you'll see more of Choptank Community Health System's mobile unit out and about on the Mid-Shore, like this recent “Cruisin’ Into Careers” event held at Dorchester Career & Technology Center – Cambridge, MD

Choptank Health's dental team members shared career opportunities available in the dental field. Mobile Health Unit (MHU) was on-site for tours of the dental operatory.

Approximately 1000+ students from North Dorchester High School, Cambridge South Dorchester High School, and Dorchester Career & Technology Center attended. New medical patients are welcome in all our locations, with more at choptankhealth.org.

Choptank Community Health System has welcomed Carly Boughner, LCSW-C, and Amy Piccaluga, LCPC, to its behavioral health team.

Boughner provides services at Choptank Health’s Chestertown Health Center and through telehealth, bringing experience in mental health therapy, crisis intervention, and care coordination.

Piccaluga provides services at the Chestertown and Goldsboro Health Centers and through telehealth, with experience in outpatient therapy, inpatient mental health care, and behavioral health leadership.

As Women’s Health Month highlights the importance of preventive care and early intervention, Choptank Community Health System is emphasizing access to comprehensive women’s health services—including prenatal care—delivered through its integrated primary care model across Maryland’s Mid-Shore.
This focus comes at a critical time for rural communities, where limited access to obstetric and gynecological care continues to affect maternal health and overall health outcomes.

By offering prenatal care as part of its women’s health and primary care services, Choptank Health helps reduce barriers and supports continuity—from preconception and preventive care through pregnancy and postpartum needs—so patients can receive coordinated care close to home.

All the college graduations are beginning across our communities, and soon we’ll be celebrating the achievements of students graduating from our public schools, too. At Choptank Community Health System, it’s a special time of year to reflect on how much these young people have grown, learned, and matured along the way.

We’re grateful to support students throughout their journeys through our School-Based Health program, helping them stay as healthy as they can be, so they can focus on learning, thriving, and reaching their goals. From elementary school through graduation day, it’s an honor to be part of their story.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 and to every student taking the next step toward a bright future. We’re cheering you on every step of the way.
