Is the next big sweetener?

As a dietitian and diabetes care and education specialist, I’m am often asked about Allulose. Is it actually healthier than sugar? Does it really help with blood sugar? And does the evidence support the hype?

Unlike many low- and non-nutritive sweeteners, allulose behaves more like real sugar in coffee, baking, and desserts while having minimal impact on blood sugar. Some research even suggests it may help blunt post-meal glucose spikes.

Bottom line: Allulose is promising, but it’s not a magic fix.

Pill or injection? Which is better?

With the recent launch of oral Wegovy, many patients are asking which option is “better” for weight loss. The reality is, it is less about better and more about fit. As clinicians, we are not just comparing efficacy, we are helping patients choose an option they can actually stick with.

What if managing basal insulin only required one injection per week? 💉

It may sound like a matter of convenience, but for many people living with diabetes, this could meaningfully improve adherence, simplify routines, and ultimately impact outcomes.

In my latest article, I break down once-weekly , including how to initiate and adjust dosing, who may be a good fit (and who may not), and key clinical considerations.

As diabetes care and education specialists, this is where we play a critical role in translating new therapies into practical, patient-centered care. 🤓
