It’s not about eating less cookies

It’s about not throwing yourself into a shame spiral every time you eat cookies

Cookies are delicious. Oranges are delicious. Eating one over the other does not call into question your worth.

Food is neutral 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The sooner we allow ourselves to eat. Like really EAT foods that we enjoy the less those foods have power over us.... which means the less we eat foods in a manner that is unhelpful to our bodies

It starts with what we believe to be true about our food and our body.... making more rules and believing more things about certain foods is not helpful it just increases our fixation

I should have ordered the salad 😞

I should have gotten that workout in 😖

I should have stayed on that diet 😒

I should have more self-control 😣

I shouldn’t have said that 🙁

I shouldn’t have made those 😟

I shouldn’t have put so much sugar in there 😞

And on and on and on...

“Shoulding” ourselves isn’t helpful and thankfully it also sounds ridiculously close to 💩 sh*tying yourself which is also not helpful

So in stead of “shoulding” yourself how can you reframe and say things like...

I get to...

I can...

I deserve...

I am worthy of...

🖤 Have more grace and less guilt

🖤 More self love and less shame

🖤 Look for the next best thing to do to honor your body...and not just your physical body either

I had to repost this here for you all because your words are paramount in how our children feel and internalize those feelings around food

Letting our children have complete control over how much candy they eat can be scary, I get it!

But, what's scarier is having the limits and control we enforce on them now eventually cause them to feel out of control around food later

I hear all the time from moms just like you that their parents:
• hid their candy
• restricted it
• shamed them for eating/wanting it

And it’s affected them to this very day

They feel out of control around sweets, it’s never enough, or they have debilitating guilt when they do indulge in some chocolate

We can stop this cycle for our kids!
