Does Akkermansia increase GLP-1? Can it reduce your appetite?

My answer is NO...Let’s break it down…

Akkermansia is an important probiotic in the health of the gut lining. It has been shown to be low in individuals with metabolic issues. Increasing it can improve some of these issues, such as insulin resistance. The research supports this.

But…there is not enough supportive research to say that it increases GLP-1. Thus far, there is a single study looking at the hypothesis that Akkermansia can increase endogenous GLP-1 levels. And it was done in 🐭. That’s not enough evidence for me to jump on the bandwagon or recommend my patients jump on the bandwagon of taking an overpriced probiotic that is only available from one company.

Lesson 🤓: Don’t be fooled by marketing. Do your research.

How to instantly improve your bloating? MOVE your body!

The other day I ate a protein bar that had a sneaky ingredient in it. I ended up sooo bloated🤰🏻

Working out was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted nothing more than to veg on the couch. But I knew that if I just started, I would feel better after a few minutes. So that's the deal I made with myself. Move for 15 minutes and if you don't feel better, go back to the couch.

Moving helps the motility of your gut, which, in turn, helps the movement of the gas that causes your bloat. Don't be shy about letting the gas pass. You need to get it out 💨

It never fails when I do this. My bloating is gone by the time I'm done warming up and then I have a great workout 💪

This is your sign to enjoy bananas 🍌again!

When I started my healing journey, I was told I could never eat bananas. The sugar in them would worsen my candida and mold toxicity. They were once a daily staple in my diet, and it's taken me years to start enjoying them again without fear.

I don't want that to be you!

Bananas have:
- Potassium ❤️
- Fiber🌟
- Vitamin B6 🧠
- Tryptophan 😊

And you can heal while enjoying them. Food is medicine!

Now, it's true, they do have carbs and sugar. These are not the enemy. But I recommend combining your banana with a little fat or protein in order to slow down its digestion, helping to keep your blood sugar regulated, keep your tummy full longer, and provide you with sustained energy. 🔥

Research shows that tampons have heavy metals in them, including arsenic and lead. Even some organic brands are contaminated.

Why is this such a problem? The skin of your va**na has a higher potential for chemical absorption compared to the skin on the outside of your body. It's also prone to micro-tears from friction. Any little tear will further increase the potential absorption of chemicals that it's exposed to.

I haven't used tampons in years. I'm lucky to have a light enough cycle to get by with a pad. But when I used to have a heavier cycle, I used a menstrual cup. It's a small cup made of medical-grade silicone that collects your monthly🩸. The bonus is that it can stay in for up to 12 hours before needing to be emptied, rinsed, and reinserted. What I wish I knew at the start of my healing journey... 🌿✨

1️⃣ Healing is not linear. There will be many ups and downs along the way. Progress can feel slow and sometimes like you're moving backward. Remember, every step, even the tough ones, is part of your journey.

2️⃣ Healing does not require perfection. You don’t need to strictly avoid everything labeled "bad." Balance is key. It’s about making sustainable, healthy choices without beating yourself up over occasional indulgences.

3️⃣ Healing is holistic. It's not just physical. True healing encompasses your mental and spiritual well-being as well. Embrace practices that nourish your mind, body, and spirit.

Starting a healing journey can feel overwhelming, but keep these truths in mind. Be patient and kind to yourself. Your path to wellness is unique and worth every effort. 💖
