Imagine being stranded on a deserted island šŸļø

No help nearby. No emergency responders around the corner. No AED within reach. šŸ‘€

While most of us aren’t actually stranded on an island, the reality is that many people live, work, hike, travel, or spend time in places where emergency help may be farther away than we’d like to think.

Being prepared isn’t about expecting the worst. It’s about understanding that help isn’t always as close as it seems.

That’s why having access to an AED can make all the difference.

Turns out…scissors really can kill people āœ‚ļø

Okay, not in a ā€œwatch out for the pointy endā€ kind of way. But during cardiac arrest, every second spent fumbling through layers trying to cut clothes off is a second without a lifesaving shock. And that’s the part that matters.

If scissors are nearby, great! Use them!

But if they aren’t, don’t waste valuable time trying to create the ā€œperfectā€ setup

In many cases, it’s faster to lift the shirt and place the pads immediately. Because in cardiac arrest, speed matters more than people realize.

The faster a shock is delivered, the better the chance of survival⚔

Most people first hear the word ā€œtroponinā€ after they, or someone they love, ends up in the ER šŸ„

And when a doctor says, ā€œYour troponin is elevated,ā€ it can sound terrifying.

So what is troponin?

Troponin is a protein found inside heart muscle cells. When the heart is injured, stressed, inflamed, or not getting enough oxygen, troponin can leak into the bloodstream. ā¤ļø

That’s why doctors often check troponin when someone has:

• Chest pain
• Shortness of breath
• Fainting
• An abnormal EKG
• Symptoms concerning for a heart attack

But here’s the important part:

An elevated troponin does NOT always mean heart attack.

It simply tells doctors: ā€œSomething may be stressing the heart.ā€

Troponin can also rise from:

• Severe infection
• Heart failure
• Kidney disease
• Blood clots in the lungs
• Very fast heart rhythms
• Broken heart syndrome, also called Takotsubo cardiomyopathyšŸ’” (And yes, broken heart syndrome is real)

Troponin is not a panic number. It’s a clue!🩺

Doctors use it alongside symptoms, EKGs, medical history, and other testing to figure out what’s really going on.

At HeartHero, we believe heart education should be simple enough for everyone to understand, because faster understanding can lead to faster action when every second matters⚔

What happens when rugged emergency response vehicles meet accessible emergency preparedness? šŸ—»

We’ve loved exploring what a potential partnership between HeartHero and INEOS Automotive could look like in rugged, emergency-ready environments like these šŸ’Ŗ

Whether it’s remote terrain, mountain rescue, off-road support, or large-scale events, having tools like an AED nearby could make a real difference when every second counts.

What do you think? Should AEDs become more integrated into specialized response and support vehicles?

Could you see a vehicle like this becoming a true ā€œhero vehicleā€ šŸ‘€

Elliot is at World Congress on Mountain Medicine, a global event held every two years bringing together rescue and medical professionals from around the world! šŸŒā›°ļø

Sharing this opportunity with the Elliot has been part of hands-on mountain rescue and wilderness medicine scenarios happening throughout the week.

Pretty incredible seeing conversations around preparedness move beyond traditional settings and into the outdoors, remote environments, and real-world rescue trainingāš”ļø

A few weeks ago, our team came across a post from Prospex sharing that their public access defibrillator had gone missing after previously being used multiple times within the local community.

The story immediately caught our attentionā—

After seeing the post, Paige reached out to begin conversations around how HeartHero could help support getting public access to emergency equipment restored for the community.

Access to AEDs matters, especially in spaces where people rely on them being there when every second countsā±ļø

Working alongside Richard Frankland, James Russell helped coordinate getting a new AED back in place and operational for public access use.

As Prospex shared:

ā€œWe know from experience how important the defibrillator is to our local community. After it went missing, HeartHero were quick to step in with a brand-new AED, with all the support needed to get it up and running. We can’t thank James and his team enough, and we’re proud that Prospex is home to life-saving equipment that can serve the neighbourhood everyday.ā€

Really proud of our team for always looking for ways to support communities and help improve access to lifesaving equipment wherever we can šŸ’Ŗ
