A morning filled with hope, gratitude and a whole lot of heart.

Members of the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute team were honored to take part in the Transplant Games of America 5K Run/Walk in Denver, an event that brings together transplant recipients, donor families, caregivers, healthcare professionals and supporters to celebrate the lifesaving impact of donation and transplant.

For CBCI, this event is especially meaningful. Every day, our team walks alongside patients through blood cancer treatment, bone marrow and stem cell transplant, recovery and survivorship. At the 5K, we had the privilege of walking and running alongside that same incredible community — including one of our own patients.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a powerful celebration of resilience, connection and renewed life.

In the episode, “CAR-T Today and Tomorrow: Clinical Decision-Making and Patient Support,” Dr. Gregory joins Dr. Jay Spiegel of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to discuss the evolving role of CAR T-cell therapy in lymphoma and myeloma.

Their conversation includes a practical look at approved indications, early referral, patient selection, toxicity management, post-treatment monitoring and how providers can support patients through treatment decisions.

Cancer survivorship is not always one big, shiny moment.

Sometimes it is ringing a bell. Sometimes it is getting through another appointment. Sometimes it is waiting on scans, building your strength back, figuring out a new normal or just waking up and thinking, “I’m still here.”

During Cancer Survivors Month, we are thinking about all of it — the relief, the fear, the gratitude, the hard days and the small wins that may not look small to the people living them.

Wayne was just a few years away from retirement when everything changed.

What started as shortness of breath led to a diagnosis of an aggressive blood cancer. When chemotherapy did not work the way his team had hoped, Luke Mountjoy, DO, and the team at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute helped Wayne navigate what came next, including CAR T-cell therapy and, ultimately, a stem cell transplant.

That transplant came with an incredible gift: both of Wayne’s sons were matches, and both were ready to help save their dad’s life.

Today, Wayne is in remission and looking at life a little differently. More family. More travel. More time spent on what matters.

It is a beautiful story about advanced care, a son’s love and the gratitude that comes with a second chance.

Following his research presentation at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, Peter Forsberg, MD, continued the conversation around advancing multiple myeloma care.

Dr. Forsberg spoke with VJHemOnc about research focused on improving the safety of CAR T-cell therapy for patients with multiple myeloma. His discussion highlighted a strategy being studied to help reduce certain complex side effects that can occur after cilta-cel infusion, a CAR T-cell therapy used in multiple myeloma care.

Congratulations to Peter Forsberg, MD, who presented research at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago this past week!! Dr. Forsberg’s abstract was selected for a Rapid Oral Abstract Session highlighting a phase 2 study focused on outpatient treatment approaches for patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.

One of our very own CBCI RNs, Kaitlyn Fiola, recently donated cells through NMDP, helping give a patient somewhere a chance at lifesaving treatment.

Kaitlyn first joined the donor registry before coming to CBCI, and while an earlier donation opportunity fell through, she was contacted again shortly after joining our team. On March 31, she officially completed her cell donation.

How incredible is that?

Sometimes, one phone call can change what feels possible.

Carol’s story is a powerful reminder of why access to clinical trials close to home matters — and we’re proud to help bring those options to patients here in Colorado.

Every clinical trial tells a story—and Carol’s is about perseverance, hope, and access to new options close to home.

After Waldenström macroglobulinemia progressed—and prior treatments were no longer effective—she received an unexpected phone call from Dr. Matous at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute with a new possibility: a clinical trial. She enrolled and now, more than a year later, she’s doing well—her IgM levels have dropped significantly, and she’s back to what she loves: riding and training horses, hiking with friends, and spending time with her grandsons.

Her story underscores a critical point: access matters. Through Colorado Blood Cancer Institute’s alignment with SCRI, Carol was able to pursue an emerging therapy close to home—reducing travel burden and helping her stay connected to daily life.
