Congratulations to Peter Forsberg, MD, who presented research at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago this past week!! Dr. Forsberg’s abstract was selected for a Rapid Oral Abstract Session highlighting a phase 2 study focused on outpatient treatment approaches for patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.

We’re proud to see Colorado Blood Cancer Institute represented on this national stage, alongside Sarah Cannon Research Institute , as clinical trials continue to help advance new therapies for patients.

Talk about leading with heart. 💙

One of our very own CBCI RNs, Kaitlyn Fiola, recently donated cells through NMDP, helping give a patient somewhere a chance at lifesaving treatment.

Kaitlyn first joined the donor registry before coming to CBCI, and while an earlier donation opportunity fell through, she was contacted again shortly after joining our team. On March 31, she officially completed her cell donation.

Carol’s story is a powerful reminder of why access to clinical trials close to home matters — and we’re proud to help bring those options to patients here in Colorado.

Every clinical trial tells a story—and Carol’s is about perseverance, hope, and access to new options close to home.

After Waldenström macroglobulinemia progressed—and prior treatments were no longer effective—she received an unexpected phone call from Dr. Matous at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute with a new possibility: a clinical trial. She enrolled and now, more than a year later, she’s doing well—her IgM levels have dropped significantly, and she’s back to what she loves: riding and training horses, hiking with friends, and spending time with her grandsons.

Her story underscores a critical point: access matters. Through Colorado Blood Cancer Institute’s alignment with SCRI, Carol was able to pursue an emerging therapy close to home—reducing travel burden and helping her stay connected to daily life.

💫 Innovative science. Brave patient. New hope. 💫

Aimee Ward was diagnosed with systemic sclerosis, a rare autoimmune disease that can cause the skin and body to tighten and harden. Through a clinical trial at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute, Aimee became one of the first patients to receive CAR T-cell therapy for this condition.

Yes-- the very same CAR T-cell therapy many people know as a treatment for blood cancer is now being studied for its efficacy in treating autoimmune disorders. And Aimee's story is a powerful reminder of what clinical trials can make possible.

We are so grateful for patients like Aimee who help medicine move forward and physicians like Richard Nash, MD, whose work continues to open new doors for care.

For many patients with blood cancer or other serious blood disorders, finding a blood stem cell donor match can be a life-changing step toward treatment.

The CBCI Psychosocial Team, in partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, hosts a free online support group for patients and families to connect with others who understand.

Join us Tuesday, May 26, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., for a space to share questions, concerns and encouragement. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month and also features expert guest speakers on topics like financial support, nutrition, palliative care, stress and survivorship.

Sean was 41, a former airline pilot, runner, husband and entrepreneur when lingering pain led to a diagnosis he never saw coming: multiple myeloma.

After nearly five years of treatment, Sean came to Colorado Blood Cancer Institute for CAR T-cell therapy, an advanced treatment that uses a patient’s own immune cells to help fight cancer.
