Another unboxing video. It obviously cannot be as cool as turning my sisters bones into a skeleton, like the last one. But I dunno, I like it. 📦 💀

Dying is a natural process. Our bodies know how to do it. But when we don’t know what to expect, normal changes can feel scary. Understanding the signs of dying can help us be more present with the people we love. 🫂

End-of-life doulas fall in love with dying people. You know how tragic that is?

I fall in love w my students too. I miss my last cohort (we’re still going strong in the group chat) and I welcome my new cohort. I swear, the filter of this work brings me the most broken-open wise humans.

If the new year is your time, the waitlist is waiting.

Martìn Prechtel has been one of my most profound teachers. I have listened to the same lessons over and over again at least 100 times over the last decade. Every time they teach me something else.

Book recommendation: The Smell of Rain on Dust by Martìn Prechtel 📚

Most funerals suck. Yes, they suck because when you are there you are grieving, but secondarily, they suck because they are generic.

Copy-and-paste monologues that dress every last one of us as “the greatest bestest person” whether it was true or not. Funeral directors who only learned your name the morning before they deliver your eulogy, or worse, a minister turning the service into a saving of souls. Which is fine - if the beloved dead was down for that. And is bu****it if they weren’t.

I often ask in my classes: Have you ever been to a BAD funeral? Most of the hands raise. What made it bad, I ask? It’s the lies.

Portraying them as someone they aren’t. Misrepresenting their beliefs. Saving souls. Playing crap music. Feeling like this could be *anybodies* funeral instead of it being the most sacred space for your beloved.

So how can we do this better? My babes, we can.

When I am creating funerals, I keep 4 things in mind. My “four functions of ceremony”
