Join the Denver Commission for People with Disabilities on October 13 from 4:30–7:30 p.m. at the Denver Post Building for an evening veterans, uplifting caregivers, and celebrating a more inclusive Denver. Community members are invited to a free viewing of Men of Honor (2000, Rated R) and light refreshments will be provided.

This event is free and open to everyone. No registration required.
Come connect, appreciate, and learn alongside fellow community members as we recognize those who serve and support our community.

Shana brings energy, confidence, and a love of dancing to every Zumba class she teaches! 🕺✨ And she has a message she’s proud to share: People with Down syndrome rock!

Her passion for Zumba is also a great reminder of why it’s important to look beyond assumptions about what people with Down syndrome can or can’t do. Everyone has their own interests, talents, goals, and personality worth celebrating. 🎉

During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, stories like Shana’s help challenge stereotypes and encourage others to see the person first. 💛

Down Syndrome Awareness Month has been recognized since the 1980s, when the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) began the observance to increase public understanding and challenge outdated stereotypes.

Today, October continues to be an opportunity to learn, listen, and celebrate the lives and experiences of people with Down syndrome. 💙💛

Awareness goes beyond simply knowing what Down syndrome is. It means recognizing each person as an individual, challenging assumptions, and helping create communities where people with Down syndrome have meaningful opportunities to participate, contribute, and pursue their goals.

🌟 This month, take time to learn something new, amplify voices with lived experience, and help replace stereotypes with greater understanding.
