Sometimes, the greatest advances in transplant surgery come from doing less.

In this clip from our latest episode of Transplant Talks, Dr. Pedro Catarino and Dr. Dominick Megna discuss how minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques are helping improve recovery while maintaining exceptional outcomes for transplant patients.

Innovation isn't always about making procedures more complex. Sometimes it's about finding better and gentler ways to give patients a second chance at life.

Over the past two summers, Jo has been an incredible part of the American Transplant Foundation team, and it has truly been a pleasure to work alongside her. While we're sad to see her internship come to an end, we couldn't be more excited to see where her journey takes her next.

Throughout her time at ATF, Jo brought creativity, dedication, and heart to everything she worked on; whether that be supporting our digital marketing efforts, developing website content, or helping plan meaningful events like our Rocky Mountain Team Celebration during the Transplant Games of America. Her willingness to learn, take on new challenges, and serve our transplant community has made a lasting impact.

As Jo shared, one of the most meaningful parts of her experience was seeing how every project contributed to supporting transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, and caregivers. That sense of purpose is exactly what makes our mission so special, and we're grateful she chose to be a part of it.

Thank you, Jo, for your hard work, positivity, and passion over these past two summers. We are so proud of everything you've accomplished and know this is only the beginning. We can't wait to see all the amazing things you'll do next. 💚

Join us in wishing Jo the very best in her next chapter!

Second chances start with one decision 💚

World Transplant Day is a celebration, but it is also a call to action.

Transplantation saves lives every day, yet too many people are still waiting, and access is not equal for everyone.

At the American Transplant Foundation, we are working to change that through mentorship, education, and support at every stage of the journey.

Because a second chance at life should be possible for everyone.

At just 4 years old, Julia received her first heart transplant after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. Years later, she faced rejection, spent months waiting for another chance, and ultimately received a second lifesaving transplant from a donor her own age.

Now a CU Boulder graduate with triple majors in neuroscience, psychology, and biology, Julia is using her story to advocate for transplant awareness, gratitude, and living life fully.

Her journey is powerful, emotional, and deeply inspiring. It reminds us of how one donor can impact generations of lives.

Today, on International Nurses Day, we honor the nurses who bring skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication to every step of the transplant journey.

From difficult conversations to moments of hope, healing, and second chances, nurses are often the steady hands and reassuring voices patients and families lean on most. This year’s theme, “Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” reminds us that supporting those who care for others strengthens entire communities.

To every transplant nurse, bedside nurse, coordinator, educator, and advocate, thank you for the comfort, strength, and hope you bring each day.

Has a nurse made a lasting impact on your transplant journey? We’d love to hear your story below. 💚
