“With this legislation, Congress is acknowledging that the legacy of post-acute providers’ exclusion from the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act continues to be felt,” Brian Doty, director of health legislative affairs for LeadingAge, said in a statement. “Federal modernization efforts are long overdue to give post-acute care providers both the funding and the infrastructure they need to fully participate in the movement towards interoperability and person-centered care.”

A federal bill introduced Wednesday seeks to help home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities catch up on digital modernization following their exclusion from a landmark healthcare technology funding program nearly two decades ago.
