We're excited to recognize Jon Van Der Veer, DO, Chair of the Iowa Medical Political Action Committee (IMPAC).

Alongside physician volunteers from across Iowa, Dr. Van Der Veer helps strengthen the voice of medicine in the political process by guiding IMPAC's support for state candidates who champion patient care and the practice of medicine, while recommending federal candidates for support through IMPAC.

Through physician engagement, candidate evaluations, and strategic political investments, IMPAC helps ensure Iowa physicians have a seat at the table when decisions affecting patients and the profession are made.

What a turn out!

Well over 500 families came to the Marshall County Back to School Fair to ensure their children are set up for success for the start of the school year, including those eligible to get the HPV vaccine! In partnership with KADI - Knock and Drop Iowa, Iowa Public Health Association , Iowa Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics , and Marshall County Health Department, we served 47 patients!

Here are some highlights:
27 youth ages 9–18 received the HPV vaccine
11 adults ages 25–44 received the HPV vaccine
⭐ 38 HPV vaccines total!

Not including 40 other vaccines administered for patients to stay up to date on their vaccine schedule! 📅

This was a great example of what can happen when we bring healthcare directly into trusted community spaces and make services accessible to families where they are.

Building connections with the future physicians of Iowa.

The Carver College of Medicine 2026 Student Social connected current and future physicians last Thursday. Students spent the evening meeting classmates and colleagues at ReUnion Brewery in Iowa City.

At the event, UI Student Director Abby Glanz, and IMS President Lillian Erdahl, MD, spoke about IMS membership and helped us launch our Iowa White Coat Network, a mentorship initiative for connecting Iowa physicians through meaningful mentorship at every stage of the journey.
