Hot tub folliculitis is a bacterial skin rash caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a germ that thrives in warm, poorly maintained hot tub water. It comes with a frustrating built-in delay: the skin looks fine right after you get out of the water. No redness, no bumps, nothing at all. A day goes by, maybe two, and then red bumps start to pop up across the torso, the buttocks or the upper arms. At that point, the hot tub is about the last place most of us think to blame. That gap (sometimes a full 48 hours) is what makes it so hard to connect the rash back to where it all started.
