A little frankincense history, and a little behind-the-scenes plant knowledge, for your Sunday evening. ๐ฟโจ
Long before frankincense becomes an essential oil, it begins as resin inside the Boswellia tree. Small, intentional cuts are made in the bark, allowing the resin to emerge and eventually harden into the little pieces traditionally known as frankincense โtears.โ
That harvesting process is part of an incredibly old tradition, but thereโs an important side to the story too. Each cut is a small wound to the tree, and overharvesting can place stress on Boswellia populations. Responsible harvesting and thoughtful sourcing matter.
Thatโs one of the things I appreciate so much about working with botanicals. There is an entire story behind every bottle, from the plant itself, to the people who harvest it, to the finished oil we get to experience here in Minnesota. ๐ค
I love seeing Northstar Aromatics at The Healthy Otter and having another local place where people can experience these oils for themselves.
