Have you seen a Well Wayne Station in your community? They expand low-barrier access to free naloxone (Narcan) and drug checking supplies through placement of public health vending machines and newsstand-style devices in Wayne County. The goal is to reduce overdose deaths and drug-related harms and ensure all Wayne County residents have access to these lifesaving supplies.

Wayne County's Well Wayne Stations distributed 36,000+ naloxone kits while expanding equitable access to overdose prevention resources.

🍦 🍨 What a sweet ending today was for our Class of 2029, who enjoyed an ice cream social with classmates immediately after completing the Human Disease Foundations 1 exam, marking the end of their first course in Segment 2 and their first 12 months at the School of Medicine (and the start of a two week break)!

Th event was hosted by our Office of Student Affairs and Career Development and the Health and Wellness Task Force, who provided popsicles, strawberry bars, ice cream cups, cones and sandwiches, and strawberry crunch and chocolate éclair bars – the latter two the favorite of the day for sure!

"Covering these stories is imperative. It moves medicine forward — and it sometimes reshapes into something new. As a journalist, I observe, investigate and then write about what I learn — regardless of my preconceived notions. I focus on stories that have gone untold and speak with individuals who often aren't included in mainstream media,” Ruprecht said.

After a one-year leave that included reporting stints in the nation’s capital, Atlanta and Africa, Wayne State University medical student Michal Ruprecht has returned to Detroit for his fourth and f...

Even mascots need their blood pressure checked! Everyone's favorite Detroit Tiger, Paws, had some fun with our medical students who volunteer with the Wayne State University American Medical Association student organization to provide pressure screenings and educational talks to those who walk along the Detroit Riverfront on Tuesday mornings from June through August.

The program was first offered to medical students in June 2014, and has expanded to include students from the WSU Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The sessions are offered in collaboration with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.

Our Wayne State University students and faculty joined families of the 264 individuals who donated their bodies for medical education in tribute and gratitude at this year’s Body Bequest Memorial Program, held May 29 at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.

The memorial, a beloved annual tradition for our School of Medicine, recognized those who completed their role in the education of thousands of students and doctors, including as a “first patient” for WSU medical students as part of the Medical Gross Anatomy course, which offers a full cadaver dissection experience to first-year medical students.

In addition to faculty speaking on the importance of the experience, students read the names of each individual and shared what caring for their first patients meant to them.
